ANNOUNCING: JACK TOOLS for OS X |
 |
|
For immediate release
January 7, 2004
Announcing Jack Tools, a Mac OS X implementation of the Jack Audio
Connection Kit (Jack). Jack is a low-latency audio server, written
originally for the GNU/Linux operating system. It connects any
number of different applications to a single hardware audio device;
it also allows applications to send and receive audio to and from
each other. Jack is different from other audio server efforts in
that it has been designed from the ground up to be suitable for
professional audio work. It focuses on two key areas: synchronous
execution of all clients, and low latency operation.
Jack Tools installs everything necessary to take full advantage of
Jack on OS X. This includes:
* The Jack server
The infrastructure you need in place to use Jack.
* The Jack Audio Server (JAS)
JAS is a CoreAudio "user space" driver that allows any OS X CoreAudio
application to become a Jack client.
* The Jack audio plugins
Both AU and VST "Jack-aware" audio plugins are provided, which
further expand the limitless audio routing possibilities when using
Jack. Both VST formats (Mach-O and CFM) are provided.
* The JackPilot application
JackPilot offers an easy to use GUI interface that allows you to
control the Jack server, and manage the audio connections between
applications and/or plugins.
Best of all - it's free!
Jack Tools - connecting audio from any OS X application to any OS X
application!

Are you using it?
My audio applications (Logic Audio, Reason, Live) exchange audio among them thru Rewire so, I guess, I do not need it.

You don´t need it.. and the rewire solution is best for what you do.. on the other hand.. the Jack Tools has great promise and can be used for a whole series of wild stuff. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Yup.. !
And it works..!
I haven´t tested this yet.. but in theory it also allows the same as Audiohijack does.. but you need an app for recording the file..

OK... the documentation is informative.. but the 3 steps you have to do.. in order to get this to work are:
1.
Start up the JackPilot application, and click one button to start the Jack server.
2.
"Jack-enable" the applications you want to connect - this usually means selecting the Jack Audio Server driver in the Audio preferences menu of your applications, or by using the Jack AU or VST plugins.
3.
"Connect" the applications you want to share audio between in the Connections window of JackPilot.
And ... it is possible to connect the output of an application that streams audio from the net .. into an app which can record the stream to disk. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

you mean that I could record audio streams directly to Logic?
I do not know how useful it could be but you never know. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube
