Hi! I have a Virus B (which i LOVE!), and have been considering getting a Nord Lead 2.

www.vintagesynth.com shows that MANY of the artists i like use te Nord, which impresses me.

But, i've also heard that these two synths sound very much alike.

Opionions, anyone?

Norm Question

Well... yeah.. they kind of have something in common.. but personally I would say they pretty different. The user interface is also a bit different and to me that means a lot. Mind you.. I do not own any of these but I have borrowed and used both models. I like both of them but I am not sute which one I would actually have bought.. Both? All these new thingies have user presets.. amazing!

BTW Norm.. you ever used/owned a full Roland System 700? I have never used the "complete" rig .. and I am snifffing at a secondhand system now.. but I have no way to actually test it / inspect it.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm mainly interested in the sounds.

Do they sound the same? I've heard that the Nord is "grittier".

No, i've never even seen a Roland 700 "in the flesh". Sorry!

Grittier.. yeah... that is my opinion too. Slightly more aggressive and edgy but you can also make some very soft sounds with it. ( I have used it for some background fill-in voices on A Scanner Darkly.. a song you can probably still find on my mp3.com page.) My experience is that you can probably make most standard analog style lead voices with it.. but is not that suited for imitating specific analog synths.. like the ARP Odyssey and the Korg MS 20 or the minimooog etc etc. It is well suited for stepfiltered leads.
