Hyperspace brings together live electronic space music with dynamic visuals to create an enveloping, mind-bending experience. This concert series will feature local, regional, and international electronic musicians teamed with innovative video artists on the third Saturday of each month beginning in October. Hyperspace provides a complete sensory immersion, while affording artists the opportunity to explore new dimensions. A special introductory concert on July 22, with free admission, will present original music by Cranial Mythos and video projections by Azimuth Visuals.
The music of Cranial Mythos ranges from peaceful and relaxing to energetic and melodious, sometimes dark and brooding, sometimes quirky and unusual, but always engaging. Cranial Mythos is the solo project of local musician, composer and event organizer Greg Waltzer (Xeroid Entity, Fringe Element, Mutation Vector, Holosphere). He has performed at planetariums, electronic music festivals, and concert venues across the U.S. The video art of Azimuth (Hong Zhang) combines natural and abstract images to create a colorful, flowing collage that follows and enhances the music.
I was lucky enough to go. I took a few pictures and a short movie). See the gallery album.
Greg made the music and Hong the visual. It was a very nice concert. Greg played 10 pieces, for of them from the Mutation Vector CD, Kill It Before It Multiplies. To see one person to play two 45 minute sets without backing tracks was a special treat. Much of Gregs music iinvolves algorithmic or random pattern generators, with improvised tectures and melodies. Greg's music is very tight - it is set pieces - never sounding the same - recognizable and identifiable. He brings in the different patterns and algorithms sequencially throughout the set, sometimes layering them beautifully. The music goes thought many styles. Sometimes is sounds like be-pop, noise and chaos, or spacy drones and sequences - pub always under control.
Hong's video art was beautiful. It was appropriate that this concert was in an art gallery with art work on all of the walls. The images on the screen were stunning.
The coordiantion of the music was very good. Each of the ten pieces had differnt visual source material and effects. The moods of the music and the visuals were well synchronized.
I play with Greg quite often in Xeroid Entity and at various festivals and jams. In this concert he showed musical aspects I had not seen before. I was thrilled and mentioned this to him after the performance. Greg said, "yeah, I've been working on it."

Great pics mosc.
I wish I could have attended.
Unfortunately I had to rise early on Sunday and the trip would have
nackered me .
Hope to make the next Hyperspace.I hope Greg recorded the performance on audio.

Attendance was better than I expected, but not as good as I hoped.
Enough to motivate me to continue doing the shows (combined with the many emails I received from people who wished they could be there but couldn't make it). Also the reaction from the people who were there was very positive.
