Hmm, yes, I am using the UB build. Didn't realize that. Ok, well, I'll definitely send a note to Wesleyan about this. |

Can you remember how it was made?
PS I love the "ding-dong" bit. Like anwering the door to someone after you've had a bit too much to smoke, and then not knowing what to do |
oh my ...you pegged it right ....the doorbell hehe
that was a sample...
the rest of it were recordings/very long loops of sounds made in SC3...layered using the mixer ...then tickled with analog delay here and there _________________ Spiral Recordings |

another quote from the sclist:
"I think the easiest is to put the letter "J" before those gui classess,
the MouseX.kr becomes JMouseX.kr, although to control it you need to bring up a graphic 'tablet' with JMouseBase.makeGUI wait for a second and... presto ! the java tablet appears...
|
yeah ok this makes sense....that was what i guessed before...
'cocoa vs java' would explain why those GUI patches i posted did not work in PC without first making those edits in the code
---
did anyone else try those patches back on the first page?...some of the sound 'classes' are absolute madness...would be curious if the sound-based patches work OK in PC _________________ Spiral Recordings |

Paul, I've just tried them, but alas couldn't get them to work
Are you still using Mac OS9? These classes may be for SC2 only
I could try booting into 9 later- and see if SC2 runs them?

Any chance of being a little more specific? I understand the first bit, but I'm stumped after that.

Okay. Got it working
But what's the point of the "I catch keystrokes" window? A wry nod in the direction of the mouse position?

that's a little subpatch i lifted from somewhere else, it's so you don't fill your patch screen with aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

that is code for SC3 , i am pretty sure..SuperCollider3d5.1 at any rate...os 9
however, there may be some GUI differences between Mac OS9 version and Pc due to graphic card support....just a guess |
and from the website www.audiosynth.com:
This was an experimental version and is really a different program than version 2. MacOS9
It never got further than that...
what is currently referred to as SC3 is the complete re-implementation with the server - client model, which works from MacOSX upwards... |

I am interested, but I have yet to do anything with it. Years back I did experiment with SC2 under OS9 on my old Mac 8500, 500MHz box. It ran really well! I was mostly changing parameters in Nick Collins' BBCut library, and trying examples from Stephen Travis Pope's tutorials. Holy Toledo... that was like 8 years ago, I'm getting old! The learning curve was steep for me, but it was fun. Another thing I recommend is "Pulsar Generator", a granular synthesis instrument which Curtis Roads made in SC2.
Now that I am not so intimidated by network stuff, I do look forward to trying OSC and maybe MIDI over ethernet. I wanted to understand SC better before I tried SC3, since the client/server model makes it just a little harder for me to figure out what I'm doing. I expect I'll be getting back into SuperCollider this year.
Looking back at some SC-vs-Max/MSP posts, back when I was starting with Max 3 there was a huge object from James McCartney called "Pyrite' which may have been a successor to SuperCollider. |

I believe Pyrite was a predecessor of SuperCollider.
the client - server thing is not so hard to understand, and there is good documentation on how it works coming with the package. So don't worry too much |
