While writing this post about the new unofficial operating system for the Akai MPC1000 - which is more stable, less buggy, and seriously better featured than the official Akai offering - I was wondering whether it would be technically possible for someone to write a new OS for the G2?

My guess is that the new OS for the MPC must have been written by a disgruntled former employee with access to the source, but who knows?

We're luckier with Clavia than users are with Akai - there certainly haven't been cool upgrades like the patch mutator, but it's still hard not to be greedy for more...

Wouldn't it be fun if one day an obscure Swedish website appeared with an alternate OS, dozens of new filters and oscillators and things?

Yes Very Happy

If only I wouldn't have this job that I have ... ah well then I wouldn't have the money probably.

Ah well orhers will strongly disagre with this, for good reasons and I'm sure I would understand 'm, but still it would be fun to hack around a bit with it.

id love for someone to hack the G1's OS - I dont think I want to mess around with my G2 yet considering there *may* still be further official updates... Either way they new os would have to be very good for me to want to use it... maybe i like the idea of a hacked, open os more that i would like trying to use it... (look at linux for ipods)
