Can Audio In as Trigger In (like Elektron Machinedrum )? |
 |
|
| I am curious about the Audio In of Elektron Machinedrum , cause it can be a trigger in . Now I have a Bass Drum kick trigger , and Snare trigger , but I don't have Trigger Convert to Midi Box to control My Sampler , Can Nord g2x do be a trigger to midi box ? If possible , I think I can save money. |

If it's the Piezo kind of kick pedal (most are), it can generate upwards of 20volts on a kick, which is 20x the 1v p-p that audio signals are. That said, I don't think it's enough current to do any damage. What you could do, is connect a small resistor (50ohm) to ensure current-limiting safety, and give it a shot. That resistor should go in series with the tip connector, the ring (typically ground) would be directly connected.
Don't double post, but you might try posting a link to this question/thread over in the DIY forum, guys there might have a better answer than I have. |

Thanks , I am happy I get G2X finally .
I am not sure should I post to DIY forum , Coz I know DIY can solve everything . but I want to know more about G2 . I want to know if possible that G2 can use its preset , I mean ,use the modular system to make a preset and change the AUDIO IN to TRIGGER IN , maybe I should try to find out why Machinedrum 's AUDIO IN can also be a Trigger IN .
http://andrediamant.free.fr/duracell.htm
this guy use Trigger to MIXer for preamp( is this like add a resistor ? ) and back to G2 . but I think it can't sense the Velocity of the trigger. It only make the G2 play note.
maybe I should try to make a E-drum for Trigger to MIDI , or buy EOWAVE's eobody .... |

It's definitely possible to use the modules internal to the G2 to make a trigger out of almost any signal that comes in to the G2. That is, after the ADC converts it to digital.
The real question, is what will happen electrically when a trigger drives the audio input, and what the digital signal that results will look like. If you have a mixer around, you can try Duracell's setup, and see what happens when the trigger is sent through the mixer. That way your G2x will be completely protected.
In fact, I can also get these same parts together, I might try myself (just so I have this trick in my back pocket for later). It will take a day or two, but I'll see what happens. |
