Just got a nord lead 2 and want to load some new sounds, but I don't really understand how to do this? I've heard that you need a sequenser, but what is a sequenser?

Don't think you need a sequencer, but any software that is able to send a midi file (.mid probably) out over the computer's midi port to the synth would do.

Here is some general info about sequencers

For transfering midi files to a synth a program like midi-ox is used by many people.

For NL 2 details somone else will have to step in, some info has ben posted about the subject in the nord lead sub-forum, and that is the place where I'll move this thread to Very Happy

Any (software)sequencer is capable to send sysex.
There are more programs who can do this, like NordGen, a kind of Editor to the NordLead2, if you're on Windows.

The files on the Clavia site are in *.mid format, which can be uploaded to the synth using the PCMIA cards. (NordGen works too, but the best to use here are single sysex files. (139 Kb)

Move it, Jan Smile

Use [Shift+OctShiftUp] to dump one to the computer...

I know, the Manual is rather diffused about this, but read page 73!

You need a computer program that can listen to the midi port and that can write out the received data to a midi (.mid ) file.

Then you'll have to set that program into it's recording mode and then on the NL use the key combination Wout gave above. Finally save the received data as a midi file.

Usually the same software that can send out midi dumps can also receive them.

Sorry for not being able to be specific about what software to use and how to use it.

All the software you have to make the right settings to send or receive the data. Most synths generate sysex data. If you use a sequencer program, like CuBase, mostly you have to enable the sysex mode (Midi Filter) or disable the sysex Filter function.

In NordGen you have to set the right Midi ports and the function receive.

To send from the computer to the synth you also have to enable the right Midi ports.

The NordLead2(X) doesn't load the patches into the memory, but in the buffer, where all patches are placed when being in use. You have to save each sound in the memory (40 locations in NL2 + 3x99 using a card; 4x99 locations in the NL2X)

Thanks man! I think i finally maked to save my sounds on my computer using NordGen. But on bank1 there is 100 sounds, but in NordGen it show that it's just 41 sounds (patches)?

Everytime I try to transfer bank2 Nordgen just close... And is it possible that 3 banks is just 11 kb?

Do you have a Midi file?
I'll attache one here.
Just load it in NordGen (Drag&Drop)
It will load 99 Patches.

Myself, I never upload a complete Bank, only single files.
Using [File > Explode Bank] NordGen will extract all patches into the folder NordGen itself is located, numbered from nord0.ngf to nord98.ngf (*.ngf means NordGenFile, which is just sysex)
Just upload the single patch and if you like it, save in the synths memory.

Renaming is not important, because you don't see the names in the display anyway Smile

I'll send the names in a text file also.

Wout

What do you mean with Bank1?
Did you downloaded it from Clavia's site or somewhere else?
Did you create it yourself?

Each file is 139 bytes, so 99 would be 99 x 139 bytes = 13,8 kB...

Oh, i guess you have misunderstood a little here... What I'm trying to do now is to get my sounds on my NL2 over to my computer. But when i do so NordGen only "register" 45 sounds/patches, when there really are 99...

And how do I hear the sounds in Nordgen?

That's really strange...
Better dump just single programs.

NordGen is just a tool, not a sound engine. That's the synths job Smile

Yep, it's not a soft synth.
That's also the reason I always work with single programs. Just load it and play it. Do I need the one in the music, I save it to the card.
