Yes

Yes

??? How do you turn Global Off? Nord doesn't let you.

I don't do it as an overdub. Never have.
I control the volume using the Cubase mixer and volume automation (controller automation) provided. _________________ http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=10574 |

Wout:
I have found a solution
If I record a second track in Cubase, assign the midi channel to "Any" and record program changes only. I have complete control of the Nord. In other words, the first track has all the performance data and I can control the volume.
A second track is created that is assigned midi channel "Any". It is this track that records program changes only from the Nord. So I have one track that has the performance and allows me to control volume and a second track that takes care of the program changes.
This works.
Unfortunately, I stand by my original post that the midi implementation of the Nord is little to be desired, not user friendly and thus not easy to manipulate.
All my other keyboards in the studio from Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Kurzweil and Sequential Circuits simply output whatever I do, and the seqencer in turn, plays back every note, controller, and perameter change that I make. No fuss, no problem. The only thing you have to remember is the midi channel assigns.
Your comment about "overdubbing" is what made me approach this differently, so to that, I thank you.
Nord Lead 2X - great sounding machine and great for live performance.
Nord Lead 2X - difficult midi implementation in a studio environment.

Well, I meant there is no Global Midi used in CuBase, just Channel 1.
BTW that extra Program Change track, is that assigned to Global Midi?
In my sequencer program it is just in a normal channel, although the Lead Manual tells the user to program in Global Midi, but I never did...
Anyway, you have a working system now
Wout
Although...
I still wonder
I'm sure if you record CC07 and CC32 in the same track on the same Channel where the Midi Notes are, it will work too! No extra track needed... |

It is just assigned to midi channel "Any".

Nope, see my original post.
I have posted a question on the Cubase.net forum asking how Cubase responds and records Global Midi channels.
I'll let you know if there is a better way of doing this.
Are you saying that Cubase uses Global Channel #1 as a default? _________________ http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=10574 |

Which is Global, I assume.

I think it is Channel 16.
