Kimball XR10 Subject description: Does anyone know this organ? |
 |
|
I just got a Kimball XR10 Superstar III organ delivered to my door for nothing. It seems my reputation for being a "keyboard lover" is starting to filter out into the Nambucca Valley.
I know an old Kimball organ isn't the same as a dusty Jupiter 8, but it does have a "Made in USA" plate on it. (I don't think I've ever owned a musical instrument which was "Made in the USA" )
So I've decided that, instead of harvesting the army of enormous styrene caps that populate some of it's PCBs, I'm going to try and restore it first. God knows I've got too many parts lying around already!
I think my respect for the humble "organ" went up after I saw Radiohead live in Sydney in 2004. In the break between songs I saw a big organ, (not unlike the Kimball) being dragged onto the stage. Thom sat down at it and then the start of "Everything in it's right place" boomed across the mosh pit and started shaking the beer which I'd just drunk. It was the closest thing to a religious experience I'm ever likely to have.
Anyway, the keyboards are fine, the solo section works well, basic accompaniment section is okay. Vibrato is down, as is the rhythm section, and the auto chords etc. Does anyone here have schems of such a thing? Anyone have any suggestions? _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

After Googling, it looks like you'll be shelling out at least $36 for the schematics, if you have to buy them....
I'm sure we've all encountered the "organ donation" at one time or another and had to turn it down. "Here's a Lowery organ for free, but you have to move the 6-ton beast from this loft apartment by yourself!" Know that I think of it, I think there is a Hammond A100 that will always be out there for me (a much smaller, and of course, cooler organ) when I can get it myself.

Thanks for finding those OPG. I don't think I'll be buying them though. Like you said, this thing is heavy and takes up a fair bit of space, I'm not digging into my DIY funds as well!
I think I'll have to do some intuitive troubleshooting. That should be fun. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |
