was looking at an old roland system 100 on ebay. pleased to see that there were faders on some on the modules.

are there other modulars that use faders instead of knobs?

why aren't there more?

The roland 700 and 100m both used a mixture. The ARP2600 used them exclusively, and the M5?.
Sliders are fine for things that don't require precise adjustment. Something about rotation between the thumb and forefinger just seems better.

It is also harder to avoid getting dust in a slider so they are high maintenance.

I think from a DIY point of view, it is more difficult to cut slots than drill holes.

Production prices i think.

Good Faders are expensive, and it would need big PCB Layouts or time intensive wireing.
Finally i think that today Faders are a thing for DIYers

Yeah, cutting slots is much work, but this is DIY anyway.
so it counts not so much.
but to get it done nice is then another thing .................... Rolling Eyes

I prefer (Audio) mixers with sliders much more . ( have made two,and a third in work )
ENV maybe also ( have one in work )

w/ sliders, you can change more parameters at once.

which could still be relevant in a modular setting.

sliders are easier for me to "read", especially envelope sliders.

the 2600 and the roland modulars look particularly satisfying to me this way.

That is correct.

In order to cut elongated holes, you need a milling machine. If you've got a milling machine, then you are laughing, but only before you see the great hole in your bank balance! Laughing

Wood is Good Very Happy

But if you are going to use wood, watch out for radio-interference Idea
