Hi there, sorry to post this here but since there are a lot of people here who really know much more about music technology and since i couldn't find a "mixer" category in the instruments and equipment subforum i will post it here.
I have a Soundcraft Compact 4 mixer which "crackles" or even better is "coughing" if you know what i mean when i move the main monitor volume knob.
Is it a mechanical issue or is it an issue of too much dust?
How to deal with it?
Thanks for any help and sorry to post here this subject.I will be happy if i will be moved to the right subforum!

Moved it to the how-tos section, there's more stuff like this here.

Eventually you'll want to replace the pot, it's worn out when it crackles (or in rare cases it's under-used, in that case using it might cure it).

You can get some temporary relief by using contact spray, iirc people have been suggesting video recorder head cleaning spray to work better than contact spray.

Thank you very much for both pointing me the right place for such a topic and for your opinion-help!

I have this problem on my little Marshall guitar amp, it is starting to be hard to get stable audio from it at all. One piece of advice I've heard is "twist the knob back and forth hard many times". Didn't work for me. Crying or Very sad
