Out of memory Subject description: Error meltdown imminent |
 |
|
Afternoon,
I've eventually brought my NM back into circulation following a long spell on just the G2 and seem to have run into a bit of an issue which hopefully someone can shed a bit of light on.
I have the NM hooked up to the editor via the midi in/out on a tascam us224.
When opening some of my older patches via the browser i get a "Out of memory - open the midi dialog and enable the port again" error dialog and it loses contact with the synth not to return until I power off the synth and turn it back on. Even if i load a smaller patch into the active slot and retry it keeps failling It's starting to do my head in a bit (along with trying to get my head back into the frame of mind for classic patching). Can anyone shed any light/remember what this error actually means and any suggestions as to how best to avoid it? I don't have another midiface to test unfortunately but am trying to get my hands on one for testing purposes.
I'm assuming that it is referring to some sort of NM memory rather than this machine as turning on cacheman tells me i still have about 250mb free in ram. The NM is unexpanded if that is relevant and I have tried switching compatability in XP between 98 and 2000 with not much difference.
Cheers

I don´t use a wintel for runing the editor app, but this sounds rather like an issue involving the mix of PC/editor/midi-interface/drivers rather than the NM1. I doubt that the nM1 can send an error message like this to the Editor and then conk out like you describe here. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

An out of memory message like what you see here does not have to be related to your hardware having too little ram available. Quite possible it is about the software acting up. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

| Hmmm, oddly enough it just dawned on me, NOMAD connects fine using the same ports. The weird thing is, I used to use this interface all the time with 3.03 and I don't remember this happening nearly as much, maybe just a handful of times. |

I've seen this out of memory message as well, for me it's related to the MIDI interface I use. I've got a usXXX, I think 122 ?, thingy as well - it doesn't work too good with the NM.
You could try to set a compatibility mode for the NM editor (by right clicking on it's icon, then going through properties), try to upgrade the drivers for the MIDI interface or otherwise try another MIDI interface. Midiman 2x2 and Edirol UM-3EX worked OK for me (XP SP-2) _________________ Jan
also .. could someone please turn down the thermostat a bit.

I have the same message on certain patches when i load them. I load them in slot and i have that message and than i loose contact with the nm, i'm on 98, and on midisport2x2, certain patch do that... don't know why, maybe patch corruption...
Addon, :
I have found a patch on my nm, when i load it from the nm, it cause the out of memory message, when i try to load it from my hard disk bank back-up it says : file load problems. Morph assignment problem, but it does not do the out of memory stuff
I guess in that case it as to do with morph assign to non morphable knob or switch... (ie event sequencer)
Included is a patch that does that...
A simple file that cause that problem on my system, open it and you'll get a file load problems (maybe, i,m on 98se). Morph assignment problem, and when loaded from my nm it does the "out of memory"
if you want to test it on the nm, simply open and add a morph using "ctrl" (like for morphing a knob) on one of the switch on the seq, it will become red or one of the morph color, (but if you right click on the switch the morph is not selectable) save it in the nm and load it back you will get the "out of memory" message..

yep
same problem here ..
Seems that you can't morph gate steps ...altough it is possible to assign morphs to them with the ctrl click ..thing ...But you can't deassign them afterwards ..resulting in a ' morph assignment problem |
