I've been making some neat stuff on Max/MSP and I asked myself what if I had a little portable box that had banks of sliders and knobs that I could use to control my Max patches with? I remember Doepfer had some similar products but unfortunately they are sold out!

Here are my questions:

1. Does anyone know of any manufacturers that make similar products with a low price tag?

2. If not, would it be possible to make something like this yourself without spending too much money and time?

All I need is a portable box that has roughly 32 knobs (8x4 grid) and 16 sliders in a single row. The midi numbers for each pot is fixed (you cant change pot #4 from outputting midi # 16 to outputting midi # 32, or something like that). I need something real simple, and if I can build it myself without spending over $150, I would take on the project.

Anybody have any ideas?

Just to be sure: have you checked out the Behringer BCR2000 and BCF2000 (talked about a lot on forums here)? One of each of these will give you 32 knobs + 8 sliders + a lot of buttons. They're cheap, but maybe a bit too large for you?

Having said that, I'd also be interested in how you generally set about to build your own general MIDI controller.

/Stefan

That's great, thanks for that Antimon!
