Searching for Tips & Tricks to the NordLead2(X) |

The NordLead2 has still some mysteries to me...
Maybe it is wise to start a discussion about how to use this synth in practise.
Mostly I use the Wheel in Morph mode, so I can set the max value and use the complete Wheel to obtain different setting. The Wheel set in FM mode mostly result in a complete distorted 'nothing'. The same goes to Osc2 mode and LFO1 mode... Any commands?
What is the use of Out mode 3 AB, that alternating stereo effect?
I thought about it and here are two results.
First a headache, because I don't think quite hard and as often as I have too...
Secondly, it could be useful concerning the Unison effect. Unison 'takes' always half of the available voices, so when using 4 Slots (= 4 voices per Slot available), Unison only leaves 2 voices to each Slot.
Unison effect, the detuning, can also be obtained by
1 the Fine tune parameter of Osc2,
2 a slight modulation to Osc2 by LFO1. This can also be set to Pulse Width modulation, if Pulse wave forms are used and
3 a slight amount of a negative (turned anti-clock wise) Modulation Envelope to Osc2. Here Puls Width modulation or FM can be used too.
Setting the Out mode to 3 AB and the panning on the mixing desk NOT completely to the left and the right for each channel, it gives a nice soft detuned and broad Unison effect, without using the unison itself.
BTW I use Unison always in Un1 setting and sometimes Un5, so not that much detuned.
Above programming results in 4 voices per Slot and all 4 are capable to have different amounts of Unison.
The mp3 file is a 2 Slot sound of the attached Program, set in a different detuning by the Fine tune and set one octave in pitch difference also.

What is the use of the higher values of LFO1 and LFO2 amount parameters? It sweeps out useful sounds most of the time. The same goes for the Rate parameter...
I think these parameter values can be used.
In the attached Program there is only Osc2 in use, only the Sustain of the Amp is set to high, so are the two Rate parameters of the LFO.
In 'Hold' mode there are three notes played on the Keyboard.
After 10 seconds the LFO1 Amount parameter, assigned to Osc2, is half open.
Then at 20 seconds some Filter Resonance is turned uo and the Wheel opens the Filter, which results in sweeping the harmonics.
Then the LFO1 Amount parameter is opened to 127, while the Wheel will drop the Cut-off.
Very little Unison.
BTW the Amp Release is very important getting some nasty distortion out...
It also provides the fade out.
