Substitutions for the NE566 VCO IC? |
 |
|
| Are there any substitutes for this IC that could be used in Thomas Henry's UD-1? If not I'll just try to find a couple, but I was just wondering..... |

There is an NTE substitute, if you don't mind dealing with NTE. They're usually overpriced. I bought two of them which I tried using for a percussion synth years ago, but I didn't like them very much for whatever reason. I still have them but they're lost in boxes of random junk.
I recommend XR2206 instead, it's got cool features and sounds better to me. And it costs less than the 566 usually does. TH also has a few projects built around these. Unless you are using a PCB you could just as easily substitute the 2206, but it's not a direct replacement.
Paul's offer here is the best price I've seen in a while, talk to him! |

I bought a bunch of these
Am I looking at the right thing? Is it too good to be true? I haven't tested them yet. _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

Your Link shows the NE556, not the NE566!
It's not the same. |

556 is a dual 555 timer. Not un-useful, but not a 566.
Hang on to those 556 chips though, they'll come in handy. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Believe me, you wouldn't be the first DIY-er to make that mistake.
