Subject description: Is it possible?

I am the proud owner of a G2 and now I'm thinking to get a second hand G2X for live purposes.

Unfortunately in our rehearsal booth there is no computer, nor any device capable of transmitting sysex files.

Is there a way to dump patches from the G2 to the G2X without a computer? The G2 manual seems to deny it, but I can't make it clear.

Sorry if this question has been posed anywhere else on the forum.

Think it's possible, but never tried ... you can do a dump one from the from the front panel of a G2, it will send out the current patch as sysex. When you connect the MIDI out to the MIDI in of a 2nd G2 that one should replace it's current patch by the one it receives as sysex, and after that you can store it from that front panel I suppose.

Re. your sig ... we have a non graphic sig policy on this forum and I'd like to ask you to change it. Thanks!

Yes, you can dump patches from one G2 to another without a computer, via MIDI. I've done this often, and it works well.

Thank you for the answers, I've finally gotten the G2X and it works fine, provided that both machines share the same OS version.

I'll program sounds at home, load them into the G2 and take it to the rehearsing booth to update the G2X. Weird! But I can't afford a computer or hardware sequencer to do so.

I've looked at the sysex spec a while ago- I believe that one could only send
a patch to a specific slot, and that you still had to save the patch in that Slot to a Specific Bank & patch number manually, if you want to be able to load that patch after the next power up.
This is unfortunate-I have a lot of patches in my engine, I want to transfer to my G2KB.
Or- is the patch in the slot non-volatile?

Yes, that's how I read it too, both in the sysex description and in the manual bits describing the "process halves".
