Hi all,

Any thoughts on the CME Matrix Y headphone amp?

Would it shittify a signal from a Fireface800?

Need an amp, for driving multiple phones (or do I?)

Reasons pro/con a headphone amp? Pro/con the Matrix Y in particular?

What y'all think?

Good question.

Well, I haven´t used it so I simply don´t know.

If you are going to use it with the FF800 then obviously you are thinking of setting up a monitoring thingie. The Fireface 800 will allow you to set up pretty fancy routing using the mixer matrix. If you consider the various scenarios you are likely to face then a headphone amp with say a more me control might be of interest. There are many options here. The headphone amp that is built in is quite OK and you should do some research first and then decide when you feel you know what you really need.

Imagine a session where you need to hear a drummer and some other stuff.. and the drummer basically needs to hear say the click track, the bass and a organ chord progression.. but not you spacing away on an LSD laced theremin.. so.. you need a multichannel headphone amp possible with a stereo "me" channel + a cue buss and level controls - on each and every channel!?

Yeah.

=okay.

Okay, so was not so much thinking about a "monitor thingie" as I was a "listening thingie". Like for mixing. Oh shits! U say. No shits! Not w/o monitors! (but he says, we are now in philadelphia and we do not have a room yet for monitors, but need to do some recording anyway...)

And, succinctly, perhaps you are right per usual.

I was just thinking, we will also need to do a monitor thingie. So we mights as well say no to the Matrix Y and just get the 2 sets of phones anyway, and use a pair of the many outs of the FireFace for the 2nd set.

Did you know that you can make music with synthesizers?

My friend has that CME headphone amp, and we have used it frequently with a Mackie VLZ1402. It seems to work great.
