110v to 220v Conversion .. need help |
 |
|
Hi,
Im a Nord G2 user from India, with a little bit of a dilemma.
The thing is, I bought it from Nova Musik a couple of months back, after having read the manual, and assuming that 100-240V meant that it was a universal device. However, obviously I discovered that this was not the case, and have been using it with a step down transformer since.
This is a problem because I am not entirely confident with using the G2 powered through a transformer for long hours at a stretch (and of course that invariably ends up being the case), and also because its a little inconvenient.
I asked some people who I thought may be qualified for advice on this, and the general consensus was that I should eave it the way it is, and use a transformer. However, when I checked out these forums, it seems that some G2 users converted their devices to the appropriate voltage.
So basically, what I am asking for is advice relating to whether I should leave it the way it is, and if I am to get it converted, then what should the specifications of the fuse used be etc. I am unqualified to do this, and am looking for specific information relating to the conversion process, so that I can give the proper instructions to the person concerned.
thanks in advance

Chetan,
I'd change it ... it's more convenient indeed.
http://electro-music.com/forum/viewtopic.php?highlight=110+220&t=2627 has some info about converting both ways ... summarizing: 110/115 to 220/230 is flipping the internal switch and changing the fuse to half the ampere value ..
I always forget the numbers, but there is a label on the back of the G2 telling you the fuse value in mA (mili Amperes). _________________ Jan

hi Jan
Thanks for the reply, and I went through the topic, which was quite helpful. I think Ive basically decided to get it changed, but have a few questions relating to the topic.
Firstly, you mentioned that it might be a good idea to fit it with a different power plug. Sorry for the newbie question, but do you mean I should get a new connector or change the connector on the G2 back panel?
Secondly, is it important that the fuse be of the exact same dimensions as the original fuse? I couldnt really tell clearly one way or another from reading that topic.. thanks |

I don't really know why I wrote that thing about the power plug probably I had traveling in mind or something .. or maybe I was just over worried at the time anyway, you'll be doing a one time conversion most likely, nothing to worry about I'd say now.
The physical dimensions have to be the same, the easiest thing to do would be to go to some shop where they sell fuses ... just show it and say that you need half the mA value but otherwise the same thing. _________________ Jan

Hey Jan,
sorry for the late reply, but got busy travelling. Anyway, I spoke directly to the Clavia dealers, who unfortunately werent around when I bought my keyboard, and they were kind enough to offer to send the proper fuse to me.
I figure thats the best thing, coz in India, it could otherwise be a BIG problem trying to hunt the correct fuse down. I'm sorted pretty much, can't tell you how relieved I am.
Thanks for the help!
