nord rack slot controls |
 |
|
Hi,
I recently bought a nord lead 2x rack to replace my nord lead 1 keyboard.
However I cannot get the slot buttons to work as I would like.
On the keyboard, the buttons all work on the keyboard playing channel. To stack two, three, four sounds I just press all the slot buttons.
On the rack, they seem to be mapped to different channels. I can remap them to the same channel but then they always play. Not just went I have the slots activated.
Is there a way to make the rack + controller keyboard perform like the lead keyboard does?
Thanks.
(I believe this may be the same "problem" discussed in another thread below. I will try to use performance mode and see how that works out.) |

| Manual NordLead2X - page 76 wrote: | All four Slots always receive MIDI, regardless of which one is selected, or if layering of one or more Slots is activated or not. However, all Slots used in a Layer (i.e. all Slots that are activated) will also receive on the MIDI channel set for the leftmost active Slot! This means that if you have a layer consisting of Slots A, B and D, and Slot A is set to MIDI channel 1, both Slots B and D will receive on MIDI channel 1, as well as on their respective set MIDI channels.
Therefore, if you want the sequencer to control the four Slots independently (i.e. not in a layer), make sure only one of the Slots is active on the Nord Lead 2X (only one Program Slot LED is lit)!
1. Set up the Slots that you plan to use so that they transmit/receive on the desired MIDI Channels. To set a Slot’s MIDI Channel, hold down SHIFT, and press MIDI CH. Then select the Slot, and set the value. See page 67 for details.
2. Set the program Slots that you don’t plan to use, to MIDI Channel ‘oFF’. This is to ensure they don’t play any sound unintentionally.
3. Select the desired Program for each Slot.
4. If your sequencer requires you to transmit on a certain MIDI Channel (the same MIDI Channel as the Slot receives on), select the desired Slot, before recording.
5. If needed, set the sequencer up to record and play back on the desired MIDI Channel.
6. Activate recording and play the Nord Lead 2X.
7. For an overdub with a new sound, select a new Track with a new MIDI Channel in the sequencer. | So when you set up your Slots to Midi as A=Ch1; B=Ch2; C=Ch3 and D=Ch4 and only Slot A is activated A will play what's on Ch1; B will play Ch 2 etc. Every Slot which will be activated will respond to Ch1 also. Always activate only Slot A in a Rack when you don't want to use a Layer or a Performance!
The trouble is the Layer concept. There are three possibilities about the configuration regarding Midi in a Rack:
1 just 4 seperated voices and instruments, then only one Slot has to be activated and the ohers respond to their own channel
2 a Performance, all Slots are activated and respond to the same Midi Channel and
3 the layer, in which all activated Slots respond to the fist Midi Channel and to its own Channel.
In a Keyboard version things go very different, because the Keyboard isn't a Midi channel Why were the designers thinking this was a very handy set up? Because the player doesn't have to set the Midi channels to the same one. The left most Slot is controlling the Layer and the other Slots don't have tbe changed!
