Doepfer A-107 Subject description: bingo! |
 |
|
Ever since I got my Doepfer system, I thought I was an idiot because all I could get out of the A-107 was rather bizarre, non-filter type noises.
Turns out it was knackered. Andy at EMIS has replaced it very promptly and I now have a working A-107. Yaaay!
And it's sweeet. I was a bit worried about buying this but the quality of the filters is lovely and the morphing possibilities mindbending.
I'll post an audio/video demo when I get some spare time!

So, can you morph from a low pass to a high pass to some other weird kind of filter? And it's analogue? This sounds really cool!
I'm not really a modular guy - can a module be purchased and hooked up to other gear in a standalone kind of way (of course needing something able to send CV)? This looks like it might be worth it!

you need 4 things, some kind of case, some kind of power supply, some kind of power adapter (to plug into the wall) and a power bus.
...that gives me an idea... maybe I should create and sell cases for people who just want one or two modules... like Antimon. |

Yep, that's what I've been doing. There are certain restrictions but the morphing definitely works. When I can construct a suitable demo, I'll post it up!

For small solutions, see my post above this!
Bear in mind, I'm not a modular guy either. This is my first. But I'm loving it sooooo much, I wish I'd bought one decades ago! Just the most pure synthesis / sound-mangling fun ever! _________________ My music: here! |

http://www.analoguehaven.com/doepfer/minicase/
yeah, I've already sold a normal-sized case I built before, a testament to the horribly overpriced crap that doepfer sells. However, thinking about the minicase that doepfer sells, I can't compete with that $110 mini case unless I can sell my own power supply and power bus. But, I could knock up a small wooden case like that and sell it cheap easily.
Edit: However, any other sized case I can compete with easily. |

Now I remember you talking about that minicase, Jyoti! Big "hmm"...

Yeah, I got two of these cases:
I'm not woodworker / geek enough to build my own so these were a good compromise on price for me. _________________ My music: here! |

That's very cool of you!
I should be able to get some studio time tomorrow, work permitting. I'll do some demos then, dude! _________________ My music: here! |

dood bravo! I finally get to hear this filter, I definitely like it. If only I didn't send it back to Noisebug... oh well. I'm happy with my decisions. |

Good demos, Jyoti. Thanks for doing something that clearly demonstrates the filter itself- a bit of a rarity sometimes among demos. That thing sounds better than I ever imagined. Definitely versatile.
Cheers

Cheers, Phil! Yeah, I get frustrated with vids that only use the camera's crappy mics. Very hard to hear anything there. And then YouTube squashes the crap out of it too! Vimeo seems the place for good-quality stuff.
I'll do some more demos of other bits and bobs soon. _________________ My music: here! |

Cool. As much as camera-mic or Youtube quality, I was talking about giving a good clear demo of the filter and not showing off a 20 module patch and then... well, I find myself saying "Will you please just shut up and turn the @#$% resonance and cutoff knobs!" (I don't actually talk to the screen but I think it real loud)
IOW I would much prefer hearing a simple sawtooth wave into a filter for a demo than some complex patch where I can't tell exactly what the filter is doing. _________________ doctorvague's youtube channel |

Ahhh, I get you now!
Yep, that's why it's a single osc playing a simple pattern each time. I toyed with the idea of just sending white noise through but I thought that might be a little too dull.
I think peeps in vids want to show how awesome they are at patching and while that's always fun, doesn't mean you get to experience the module on demo that well. _________________ My music: here! |
