Volta is an AU plug-in that turns your audio interface into a voltage control interface.
It'll work with any audio interface with DC-coupled outputs.
MOTU interfaces with 1/4" outputs will work and RME's are likely to work too.

This is neat too much coffee

It does look pretty cool.

Now that's just mean Smile

I was going to try a DIY with MAX/MSP but I was worried that it might fry my MOTU. I guess Volta is proof that it does work.

Wonder is there any specific calibration in the software that keeps the CV within a range that's safe for the MOTU soundcard?

They used a closed-loop calibration system.
You plug one oscillator output into the interface and measure the frequencies coming out of it.
Then you can create a complete profile that addresses any non-linearities in both the interface and the oscillator.
The calibration feature will support different oscillator scaling standards.

Pretty exciting news - finally, a way to integrate analog synths with DAWs in a way that bypasses MIDI and all its constraints. More microtonal analog, anyone? Wink

I still have my Moog Voyager PE. I originally got it with the idea that I might build a modular system around it. That was before I realized that I still have MUCH to learn about programming my Nord G2X and Korg M3. Yikes.... I'll probably keep the Voyager though because I have the instructional DVD - Voyager programming for dummies like me, as it were. Laughing

i noticed a page that was originally on the motu site disappeared and they ask you to email for more info. does anyone know when this is going to be released? i know quite a few people who plan on using it in their vintage modular synth studios.
thanks
mini

Here's a video showing Ableton Live driving 2 CV inputs of a Frostwave via a Volta/Motu interface

I was referred to this thread, for those who already have Max/MSP or Max 5 and want to use it to control their analog synths via control voltage, like Volta:

If you don't feel like spending any money, you can also use ChucK:

Of course, Volta has some nifty calibration feature that may be a bit tricky to reproduce.

At least two different Max patches with calibration were posted here by "bin" and "danny":

http://www.cycling74.com/forums/forums.html?t=msg&th=30161&prevloaded=1&rid=0&S=259904a2e168238ce0268cc1e1bdd26e&start=80

I'm personally not against MOTU's right to make some money off of Volta, but I have a Max license, hence my interest in using what I already have. Cool

Cool! And you don't really have to buy Max/Msp if you want to run already made patches, if memory serves?

Hmm... I feel a prospective ChucK project coming up. thinking
