korg emx electribe |

Hey everyone this is my first post in these forums and i hope it gets answered soon. So it's my birthday this week. I'm in love with all types of music and my main instrument is bass, but i'd like to try some electronic stuff.
I'm thinking about getting the korg electribe emx because it has drums & synth. Is this a good instrument for a beginner? Also i have no idea what i need in order to start playing. Like i know for bass, you need a bass guitar, a bass amp and an instrument cable. What do you need to start playing with things like the emx? I know just about nothing about the korg electribe emx, but I´m sure that we have many members who do. I suggest you edit the subject title to include something like "korg electribe emx". This will ensure that the right people notice your post.

I have an ESX, which isn't exactly the same thing, but it sure is a fun box. It seems the interface on the EMX is similar, in which case it probably fits a beginner well. I use the ESX mainly for drums though - I'm not sure how you work the synth parts - probably best to want until a proper EMX owner chimes in.
You could start messing around with this thing using headphones, a common stereo or any amp you have standing around. When things start turning serious you might want to get some monitors or some kind of dedicated synth amp/speaker. That's something Electro80 knows everything about

I've got the precursor 'em-1' which completely blows me away every time I spark it up. It's pure 'House-in-a-Box'!
I'd love to get an emx-1 someday, as this seems the natural progression. Korg really were on to something with these Electribes- and I do think they are already classic machines. Apparently you can 'scroll' though waveforms making the sound become 'animated'. That looks like a lot of fun.
FWIW, I've owned all the electribes- my favourites being the er-1 and the em-1. I just have the em-1 now. Apparently you can mod them to run on batteries too- I want my youth back!!!! |

I have both an ESX and a EMS in my setup. They deliver instant satisfaction, pull the start button and the music is there. But still, it is more of rhythm machines. I have done a lot of drum programming, it is easy, but for complex melodic stuff, I think other things are better. But a ESX and a Clavia G2 is a perfect pair, I have made live sessions with just those two machines.
