G1 bit depth??? |
 |
|
im been considering getting one of these to complent my virus ti. however i been looking at the spec and it seems its internaliy 24bit 96khz which is perfect but when it comes outta the dac's it is only at 18bit surely this causes some massive sound issues???
im right in thinking this does the audio directly via the dacs and cant send the internal code via usb?
anyone with a nm1 who uses 24bit depth on there daw and still gets good results with the 18bit converter?
anyone ever converted the dac's to another 24bit converter? |

The converters are not the whole story, it seems.
I, and many others, love the sound of the G1 as it is. Some people even prefer its sound to the G2.
Pick one up for yourself and try it. You may be pleasantly surprised! _________________ http://www.soundcloud.com/cebec |

There are quite a few 18 and even 16 bit DACs that sound better than many 24 bit DACs. There is no reason to assume that a DAC has an inferior or unacceptable sound because it is less than 24 bits. _________________ Dave Peck |

thats true in many respects but i was thinking i work at 24 96 and then pre the post code modulation bounce i dither it too cd quality for complations and such. when using differnt sample rates and bit depths depending on the soruce you get distortions and intersample issues i was wondering if anyone else works like this and how bad the issues of downsizing from 18bit wud be cause i at times wud be using 16bit 18bit and 24bit in the same project which wud have stepping issues surely i dunno i was just wondering im sure the dacs inside that nord are of high quality. |

NM has only analog outputs, not digital. So concerns about bit rate conversion are irrelevant. Sound quality of the audio outs is excellent. _________________ www.gregwaltzer.com |

+1
It is sound quality at the ouput that matters regardless of bit rates and the like.
I have a G1 and a G2 and record everything at 24Bit (in Ableton or Soundforge) and both machines sound great. Difficult to tell them apart really. I think part of the difference in sound comes from the slightly different modules and modulation ranges. Get them to mimick each other taking these differences (pulse width modulation had me really confused on the G1 for a while until I realised the expected range of the input) into account and they become very hard to tell apart.
I think they both sound considerably better than any other VA I have used or heard (software or hardware) but part of that may be patching and familiarity (and bias). _________________ iP (Ross)
