This forum on Composition is hopefully the place to discuss interactive composition / improvisation / accompaniment.
Since a few years I'm working on applications which can recognize music and generate musical responses. http://www.jazzperiments.com/jam is the most recent online version developed in Java. The system is quite flexible and I've noticed that friends use it in many different ways (depending on their mood, taste or the instrument they play). I attached some examples.
Of course I am very interested in remarks, ideas, suggestions for improvement, completely different approaches, other applications etc. etc.

Welcome

This is cool, I like it. Are you using a Fast Fourier Transform?

Yes, Jazzperiments Jam uses Fast Fourier Transform based on an implementation by Arnault Pachot. I improved the speed by reading a 'big' sample of 100 ms in a number of small parts.
