nord electro 2 pedals |
 |
|
Hi all,
I am new to this forum and appreciate you taking the time to read my question; I fear it may be a n00b question but whatever.
I bought a nord electro 2 at the end of January this year. I have a standard maudio sustain pedal that I used with it for two months. Something weird happened to the sounds; somehow all the programmed sounds in those 6 soundbanks disappeared, and where when I turned the keyboard on I used to get the electric piano sound automatically, now it changed to where I got an organ sound automatically. This didn't bother me because I was setting my tone manually and not using the presets but in retrospect I guess I should have fixed it immediately.
I got the Roland EV5 pedal about a month ago and had that running as well for volume on the organ and wah control, with my sustain pedal doing sustain and rotary control.
Two weeks ago the sustain pedal stopped working unfortunately right before a gig. It does not sustain, nor does it switch between fast and slow rotary functions for the organ sound. The control pedal was still functioning as a volume pedal/wah control at that point, but tonight the control pedal stopped working.
I have updated the OS on the nord to the latest downloadable version from the clavia website and reloaded the factory presets via a MIDI sysex dump. I am not familiar with this stuff so it took me a while to figure that out. I got my presets back - yay! - but that didn't solve the pedal problem I'm having. Neither the control or sustain pedal works.
Is this a common problem with the nord electro 2? Is it possible to 'blow' the pedal functions on the keyboard but have everything still working? Is there anything else I can do to fix this? I am supposed to fly out tomorrow night to do a little mini tour and I'd like to have those pedals working for it.
I am not experienced at all with MIDI or fancy keyboards like this - this was an upgrade for me from my vintage keyboards and I had to look up what a MIDI sysex dump was, then find a program that would let me do it. Any help at all for beginners like me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all! |

I also should add I have not dropped the keyboard or banged it or treated it roughly; it is not physically damaged. |

It is not normal to have these kind of troubles...
Once I had a problem with the sustain pedal, but it was a loose wire inside the pedal itself. Do you have a cable tester of any kind? But then you have to make a connection for the Pedal, which means a small cable with two female stereo plugs and an insert cable (which you can buy ) so you can quickly test the wirering of the thing.
But two cables at the same time..?
[exaggerate mode]By any chance, are you a 'cable puller', you know, those people who are standing next to the mixing desk and remove the cables by pulling them from a large distance Cables won't last long in such circomstances...[/exaggerate mode]
I would check the cables first.
Then... You bought the Electro new or second hand? In the fist situation I would as soon as possible ask for a replacement, because of the tour you have to make!
In the second situation I would take the old gear on tour

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm definitely not a cable puller. I was more concerned if there was a known issue with the pedal functions not working properly with two or more. The only thing that disturbs me about this and what I think may derail my chances of getting it replaced is that these functions did work properly at one point. For approximately two weeks, but it still functioned. Both pedals are new as well, but I will take it to a music store and try it with a different pedal to see if that does the trick since that's the one thing I haven't done up to this point. Probably should get a cable tester as well for future use.
I purchased the nord new from AMS. I sent an email in to them and am waiting on response. Thanks again for your help. |
