(also posted on the "Making Music with the 566" thread, but I thought I'd try here so more might see it)

So if I make a rather large purchase, I can get a pretty good stock of NE566 VCO chips to sell for about $2.50 each. The buy is fairly substantial, so I wouldn't want to do this unless there's a good amount of interest, so... are people still looking for 566s out there, or do you already have some? These are used in the TH-101 VCO board, some of Thomas' older projects, and they pop up in other nifty older projects too. Let me know if you're really interested and I'll judge from there. Of course, there is no commitment to buy if you respond here, but please don't say anything unless you're very interested and really looking to buy. If this works out, I may be able to leverage this and look for other hard to find chips. Thanks!

Tim (love those little VCO chips) Servo

I am very interested in at least 10, but most likely a few more than that.

i have a few left , but at the price you suggest would definitely buy more
say 20 to 30
as for other chips that could end up being a rather large /and expensive list
so many are getting difficult to source reliably
would be amazing if you could do this
many i am sure would forever be in your debt
cheers
denis.

THAT is a good price... I just bought 4 off of eBay and it was $32

What other projects are floating about that we could use these in?

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the link, but actually that's an old one. All of our Thomas Henry books (including Making Music With the 566) are available in printed or PDF form at www.lulu.com/magsmoke.

Another TH project that uses a 566 is the UD-1 drum voice. Info for that one can be found on Scott Stites "Birth of a Synth" site. Smile

Okay, so I think we're going to go for it. I just have to work out terms with the chip broker. This involves purchasing hundreds of chips, so I should have plenty. I'll shout out when I know more!

Yep! I've got to tweak the layout of the TH-102 board (fix two Rs that should tie to +V instead of -V, repour the ground plane), and then I'm set to order more 102, 201 and 301 boards, AND wire some money off for a buncha buncha 566 chips! It's been a busy month at House of Smoke. Wink

I apologize to anyone who has sent me a PM or a message at Magic Smoke and to whom I haven't responded yet. I've got a bunch of projects going, school starts soon, and I'm recovering from a cold. I'll get back to you, really. If I don't within a few days, yell at me again!

I'd buy 10 for sure, maybe 20 depending on what money looks like when you get the chips.
