Cwejman S1
well not exactly sold I've got a Octopus and a Supernova Rack for it and I have broken a switch, so it seemed like a good exchange at the time.
Looking back it was the perfect synth for me except for missing a 3rd envelope...And I really miss the sound. |

Nord G2X. I sold a Yamaha S90 at the same time and don't miss that at all (although the keyboard had a great feel). The only other keyboard I really should not have sold was my Clavinet C.
Stretching a bit, I put my 1974 Stage Rhodes on eBay a few years ago and it didn't sell, whew! That I would have really regretted, bought it new in 1974.
Two synths I had the chance to buy and regret not buying back in the day were an Oberheim 4-voice (played with a used one, amazing sound, bought an OB-X instead, since I was touring with a showband and figured the patch memory would be handy) and an EML-101. Oh, the 6-voice version of the OB-X cost me $6000.00 back then!
I had been trading letters back and forth with a guy from EML for some time, he even sent me an owner's manual for the synth (which I still have, hand-drawn pictures and everything), and he came to Toronto with one of the synths for a music merchant show. He was demo-ing the synth in a hotel room (used to be the Skyline hotel), it was very cool.
That brings up a potentially interesting idea for a thread. I'm sure we all have glossies and cool pamphlets tucked away from the early days. How 'bout we scan some of this stuff and post it to a new thread? I think there are other places on the 'net where this stuff resides but I don't think they have everything. I still whip out my glossies for the Moog System 55/35/15 to drool over. I often wonder what happened to some of the manufacturers' reps I corresponded with.

I would have to say....
- MiniMoog - had the Typwriter style case for it (also sold a Commodore 64 with a D/A convertor so I could sequence with it to the person who bought the Mini)
-Alesis QuardraSynth (loved the layout - operationally it came up a little short)
- MiniKorg 700s - such a blast to play with.
- Yamaha CS-50 - don't miss moving the beast...but it had it's quirks that was fun to work with. _________________ Dave

I never sold a synth I bought. I do regret putting a bunch of them in storage in the wrong country for about 13 years. Which is almost as bad, as I miss some of them, but I wouldn't have space for them right now anyway. I mean to get some of them out from there at some point, when I am in that part of the world and can actually fetch them and bring them here.
There's a MS-20, 2600, polysix, monopoly, and a JX-3P in that storage locker. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

I didn't even sell it! |

I had a Korg MS-20 that I left with a friend. He moved and we lost touch. What I'd give to get that synth back! LOL! I sold a Korg MonoPoly once, to another friend, who then sold it. I'd love to get that back too. Another regret is I sold my Sequential Circuit's Prophet 5 in order to pay bills. All in all, hindsight is 20/20. My new policy is sell nothing! LOL! |

It isn't the synths I've sold that I regret. Like a couple of other people in this topic it's the ones I didn't buy that I regret.
So I don't miss the MS20 a bit, or the CZ1000, but I certainly regret the fact that in the early to mid 80s I had little money because of the employment situation in Britain, and then when I did have money I was totally out of music for several years and I didn't know how cheap things were at that time.
I'd have definitely bought a VCS3 (the first synth I ever played, but didn't own) or Synthi A, and possibly a Juno 60 or Jupiter 8 or 6. I'd also possibly have bought the ARP Odyssey that was going for £300 in 1982.
With hindsight I'd have bought everything and just kept it until the prices went up. Who wouldn't?
Then again, there are cheap and little valued synths around now, and instead of regrets it's worth seeing what's out there. I bought a Kawai K1 for £10.50 last year. It'd had another synth dropped on it and several keys were smashed. It played perfectly from another keyboard via MIDI, and I replaced the keys anyway for a few pounds. And my DX7 was only £71 when people thought they were dated and cheesy. Prices seem to be rising now for both the K1 and the DX7.
Another great buy was the Casio CTK900 for £50. No-one wants any keyboard that's got its own built-in speakers and auto-accompaniment. It's got limited programmability, but enough to make some really great sounds with the ring modulator that Casio put in there in a moment of inspiration, and the flute with carefully programmed reverb makes something like the Mellotron flute gone to heaven - beautiful and more expressive than the Mellotron. I wonder how many little gems like that will be missed now and then lamented in later years? _________________ Websites: http://sweep.infinite9ths.com

My Octave Cat, because I understood that synth more intimately than any other, and my Xpander, for obvious reasons.
I regret selling my TB303 in 1986 for $50! |
