hi i'm new to the forum. i'm working on the BOM for a rev2 Oakley VCO, and wondering about the CA3080 transconductance amp. i see them online for $15 - 20. should i go for that? or is there an equivalent or lower price source than random google hits? thanks for any info and sorry if this isn't the right spot for this question.

You can pick these up for a lot less than $15 at Futurelec - at this site:

http://www.futurlec.com/ (Just do a quick search for CA3080)

They stock the 3080E, which is the normal DIP, plastic cased version. If your project needs the metal can version (3080A), let me know as I know a few alternate sources for these as well.

Other options:

.50 each, but pricey shipping, so buy a few sets:

I've bought several from these folks:

Dnice!

Futurlec has pretty good deals on CA3080s (as previously stated) but this thread makes me a bit weary of ordering those chips from them:

http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-34761.html

Regardless, I ordered some LM13600s from them which seems to have the same reliability issues so we'll see how that goes. Just remember, don't order from Futurlec if you need something soon. I placed my last Futurlec order on 6/30, it shipped on 7/14, and I'm still waiting on the damn package!

Also, Bridechamber also sells 3080s for $2.50

P.S. If you do want to order from Bridechamber let me know. I need one 4006 but can't justify paying the shipping for just one chip..
