Hello Yves, hello everybody!

i'm building my second JH-Yusynth wavefolder from Yves' site, this time with an offset input as well. i love this thing.
Noticed (among lots of other maxed functions) a Si/GE switch on Jurgen's module on his site,
so i'm attempting to put a second row of matched nos 1N34 germanium transistors for this one.

http://www.jhaible.de/jh_wavefolder.html

Does it make sense? Im not shure about where to switch these, but i assume, i just switch the full row af diodes, right?
Is it safe to do this while the module is on? Or does it make sense at all to do this?
Or do i need to change the 15k resistors as well because of the breakdown voltage? Does anyone with a word on this?

btw, thanks for yusynth for this wonderful module.

robert

Hi Robert

using GE versus Si does require a change of the value of the resistances. As you said it the forward voltage drop is not the same, around 0.2V for Ge versus 0.6V for Si. I think it would be interesting to run a SPICE simulation to explore the differences in the produced waveshapes.

Now I am not sure this will give a noticeable change in sound indeed while the offset mod will impact nicely on the sound palette. STG introduced this offset mod in his version of this wavefolder.

Hello Yves, nice to meet you!

im not well versed in spice, i'm not shure how i can emulate this.
i'll give it a thought... i thought i put one together with trimmers and see
what happens.

im not either, i just saw that switch. Smile
think Jurgen would put it there if it wouldn't affect the sound at all?

Ok, but it's already on your module as the second input, or did STG change it in another way? buffering or processing the second input?
??

Calibrating this, from VCA like to more agresssive...
started messing with the two trimmers inside gave me various results,
it does sound nice n fat, but i didn't get it to be ringmod-like harsh, might i do another to match things more tightly...
today. Smile

thanks,

May be you could ask this directly to Jurguen? He has his own subforum here and it would be interesting to have his opinion on this Ge/Si switch.
