Nord Rack 2X Layers always enabled? |
 |
|
I just bought a Nord Rack 2X used. It sounds great except all slots seem to play even if only one slot is selected/lit. My controller is set to channel 1 and each slot is also set to channel 1. If I switch between individual slots, the sounds on all slots always plays. Is there some other setting or concept I need to do or understand? (If I hit trig button and switch between slots, it seems to work fine locally).
The only other way is turn off the other slots but then I cannot layer. Did I get a bum unit?
Also, why 4 outputs and do they correspond to the slots? (I'm hooked from Output A with a TRS connector to my mixer).
(Since posting this, I see layering is a common rack question [Svoboda on March 13] on the rack. I'll read through the other posts, but will keep this post). Last edited by jro on Sat May 29, 2010 11:12 pm; edited 1 time in total |

No, your unit is in perfect condition.
If needed, you can down load the Manual at http://electro-music.com/forum/post-210056.html#210056
On Page 76 you can read the following text: | Quote: | | All four Slots always receive MIDI, regardless of which one is selected, or if layering of one or more Slots is activated or not. | To make it more difficult, the next lines aren't true: | Quote: | | However, all Slots used in a Layer (i.e. all Slots that are activated) will also receive on the MIDI channel set for the leftmost active Slot! This means that if you have a layer consisting of Slots A, B and D, and Slot A is set to MIDI channel 1, both Slots B and D will receive on MIDI channel 1, as well as on their respective set MIDI channels. | Beware, the Lead is a synth almost 16 years on the market (Yep, it's a record!) and this 'leftmost' thingy is only true in the original NordRack (1). Clavia never changed the text in the Manual.
Solution...
Set the Midi of the Slots not in use to [off] by [Slot button > Shift+Unison > Up&Down to off] and save the Performance that way. Next time you upload the Performance all will be right.
Anyway, this feature is one of the most important differences between the Lead and the Rack. Not much important in the studio, but a real omission on stage...

Routing the Output is a Shift function, see [Manual page 62 and further] The different routings are in the list at page 65 and on the Panel at the right.
If you want to know about Out mode 3, tell me.

Disabling LFOs |
 |
|
| Is there a way to disable the LFOs or amplifier? Does turning down rate, gain, and/or amount essentially make the effect "passthrough" or "unity"? |

Does turning down rate, gain, and/or amount essentially make the effect "passthrough" or "unity"? | Pressing 2xArpeggiator disables LFO2 (all LEDs out) and the same, only more pressings on the routing button of ModEnv disables this module. LFO1 uses shuting down the Amount.
The Gain in the Amp module shuts down the complete Progran or Layer.
Are you doing some research on the Performance mode?
In need of single layers?
