Any wisdom fully appreciated. Once spelt out in the kind of language a dumb-ass can understand.

Audacity is a free wave editor, sort of like soundforge, except a little less slick and a few hundred bucks cheaper. It has some exotic features like being able to open any data file as a sound clip (that will of cource get your noise).

"any data file" would of cource include midi ones.

I was trying to take Play´s comment that he only used midi as a way to get data from one point to another a step further.

Interesting concept. Ironically - I don't even sequence - let alone use midi in this context... Smile

All of the remix/recycle project tracks I've worked on in the past have been purely audio. Someone's sent me a disc of raw material - or broken out all the audio tracks - and I've sliced and diced from there.

I usually work like that too, MIDI files simply don´t convey enough information or emotion on their own. I do like to have them at hand though because they can be used to controll effects that are used to treat the audio tracks.
