Hey all,

My name's Darryl and I'm an electronic DJ/Producer from Ireland. First off, let me say thanks for having me, I look forward to expanding my knowledge a bit more in the world of electro-music! I'm currently studying for my masters in Music Technology at the University of Limerick. The reason, I'm here is because I'm in need of some guidance with regrards my research topic for my thesis. I've chosen to investigate the use of psychoacoustic phenomena as a compositional tool in post-digital/glitch music.

I'm relatively new to the world of glitch music and could only name a few of the more popular artists from the genre such as Ryoji Ikeda, Alva Noto, Autechre, Oval & Fennesz. Furthermore, I've never tried my hand at producing post digital, glitch or any form of IDM before now. So, I'm hoping that some of the more experienced members might be able to advise me on some of the well established approaches to composing glitch music. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Welcome to electro-music!

You might be interested in talking to Joshua (Yeshua) Stuart, who wrote an article on Feral Glitch on our blog:

Quote:
The term “glitch” has come to define many aspects of electronic music over the past several years. From glitch-hop to future bass, we find aspects of this stylization prevalent in many genres of electronic music geared toward both dance floors and the cerebral aims of electronica. Today, I want to show you how to use two powerful software tools, Percussa’s Improvisor and iZotope’s Stutter Edit, in unison to create unique, randomized and tempo-synced glitch effects.

More at http://www.percussa.com/2012/04/27/feral-glitch-using-percussas-improvisor-with-izotopes-stutter-edit%E2%80%8F/

You can email me through the Percussa website if you'd like his contact info.

Good luck,
B

The best approach to composing 'glitch' is not to have an approach. Wink Very Happy

Cheers guys! @bschiett: Thank you very much for the link. I might take you up on that offer at a later stage in my research but I think his paper will be sufficient now. Thanks again!

agreed! a handy tool to have is a vsti called grossbeat. you can manipulate sounds and rhythms very nicely with it.
