New iConnectMIDI models for iOS, OP-1, etc. Subject description: iConnectMIDI2+, iConnectMIDI4+ |

New models introduced, the previous discontinued:

Now to find out how to use this and an audio interface at the same time on iPad since iConnectMIDI connects to the dock connector, leaving no place to plug in audio interface - having much more trouble finding this information than expected... _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

Newbie Issues With ICM4+ |
 |
|
I've spent an intense four days with the new iConnectMIDI4+ (ICM4+). The build quality is superb. Here are my issues related to using the ICM4+.
1. The draft manual's section "Port Routing: understanding iCM4+ MIDI" doesn't present the information in a manner that makes sense to me. It may work for others but I'm just not wrapping my brain around the way the information is presented. Once I have this sorted, I'll have mastered the main function of the ICM4+.
2. ICM4+ has Audio passThru, one of the main features that made it so desirable in my eyes. Once my iPad is connected to the ICM4+, it's analog output is supposed to be disabled. I cannot verify this because the headphone jack busted the day before my first attempt to integrate the ICM4+ into my rig. At any rate, digital audio from the iPad is then routed through the ICM4+ to my laptop, a Lenovo using Windows7, feeding an M-Audio ASIO Firewire device. (I use the 1814 at home and the 410 on the road.) Since Live (my VST host and audio processor) can only recognize one sound device at a time, I had to use ASIO4ALL to wrap the M-Audio and the ICM4+ into a single, aggregate device that Live can see. This works but the latency is ruined for precision playing. Is it my Lenovo, Windows7, the M-Audio's driver, ICM4+, Live? Perhaps there's contributions from all. Until I get to try a more powerful computer, a different OS, and a different audio device, I won't be able to make any determinations in that regard.
3. ICM4+ does not recognize my M-Audio KeyRig 49 controller. It does recognize my Korg nanoKONTROL so the ICM4+'s host jack works. Is this a Korg or iConnectivity issue? I can't say. I also cannot spend money for a new controller that ICM4+ will recognize.
I look forward to hearing the experience of others with the ICM4+.

Therefore, you cannot use the iPad directly connected to an audio interface or in a dock such as an Alesis iO Dock. You also cannot connect a sound card directly to the ICM4+. Its USB Host jack is for USB Class-Compliant MIDI devices only. No audio is sent to this jack. You must connect a computer to one of the three USB Device jacks. Then you need an aggregate device like ASIO4ALL on a PC (I think Macs have this ability built in) to bundle ICM4+ with the audio interface that is connected to your computer. Does this help?

Oh hai! And more than a year later too!
Yeah, I found this bit about no support for USB audio in the USB host jack here:
http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/4326/iconnectimidi4-now-available-for-order/p3
I've been flip flopping between this and the Oplab for MIDI interfacing my OP-1 with other gear. In the meantime I got a Roland Duo Capture EX for the iPad to serve as audio interface. Haven't tested the MIDI side of it yet. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud
