Looking For Samples |
 |
|
I'm looking for some specific samples. I'd record them myself, but they are difficult to get.
The first one is a bunch of birds flapping their wings or taking off.
The second is train tracks switching tracks.
Anyone have any leads let me know. |

Welcome to the forum!
What kind of bird do you want and how many? We have a group of about 10 pigeons next door which take off all the time, I could record them for you, and you could always mix several of the recordings for a bigger flock.
We also have an old railway track near by, with manual track shift. That will be a bit harder to get but I can give it a try. Since this is not a sound that everybody knows that well you could always use some metal sounds to simulate it.
Of course, there is always http://www.freesound.org/
Oh and I moved this thread to the field recording area. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

Looks like there are some good bird wings samples on that free site. I still need the track switch sample. I thought about how I could fake it and I'm kind of at a loss. |

To be honest I am not too sure either what the sound of changing tracks sound like, exactly. If you are making sound for picture you can get away with more faking because the image is there to fool the mind into thinking it knows what it is hearing.
I will see if I can get down to the tracks some time to get a recording, if not just an idea of what it sounds like! But don't hold your breath...
In the mean time, if you can't wait... It involves heavy metal bars fixed in position, so that means a short decay. You could try pitching sounds down and applying a short envelope to them. That's where I would start - after having found a few metallic sounds that come close. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

Also saw a spot along the steam train track where there's one of those manual track changer things... and a sign saying £1000 penalty for tresspassing onto the rails... :S _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

Probably a big reason I'm having trouble finding a sample. :[ |
