Hey everyone! This is my first posting here! My name is Devon. I live in Los Angeles, CA and record and perform as Rhythm Droid. I have been doing hardware-only live techno and house for 14 years. I have deep respect for those who go "under the hood" of their instruments.

So,
I am working on developing a real-time MIDI loop recorder with (eventual) random access to any 16-th step in the loop. MIDI note parameters can be modified and any step can be retriggered and stuttered.

Back Story:
I am a long time user of the Yamaha RS7000 and the Real-Time Loop Remix feature is unparalleled for re-shuffling your MIDI sequence in surprising and musical ways. But the RS is very heavy and touring will not allow so much hardware. Until I can afford a Sequentix Cirklon ($¥£€!), I will try to find a way to reproduce the Yamaha's amazing real-time MIDI effects within my G2.

This is my first real attempt with the G2 so I am not familiar with too many of the "low level" modules like Shift Register and Flip Flop (I'm sure these can elegantly simplify patches -- some of you are G2 "Steve Wozniak"s I'm sure)

Here's what I have so far. The "Note Length Recorder"

SLOT A
A rising sawtooth will sequentially trigger 16 "Note Sequencers".
Each Note Sequencer records the Note On and Note Off. This allows notes to be various lengths, not just a single length.

SLOT D
Please load in any sound.

I included a little switch to "Pass Through" the incoming notes to Slot D.
But once you record a Note, you must switch over to have the Note Sequencer play it.

My question is: Is there a way to simplify the recording of note lengths?

Many thanks!

Rhythm Droid

Hi E-Wave.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, Tim's patches are my favorite on this site, but I have no clue how they work. I love that MIDI looper but to gain access to various "steps" within the loop is my challenge. I honestly am thinking about stepping down from a G2 keyboard to an Engine, and saving up for a Sequentix Cirklon.

the other patches are very RS7000-like. thank you for finding those!
but my main "headache" right now is the "note length" issue, and those are for simple pulses, like drums. I think I should go back to Rob Hordijk's tutorial and look at the logic section, because I know that understanding the logic modules woul allow me to solve this problem much more gracefully.
