Hello:
I have been messing with ATTINY85's on my bench. Notes here.

Question: any of you do useful things with these? I2C slave maybe? Not sure if there is any advantage of using these over say a Nano, besides saving a few bucks (but losing several pins).

Replying to my own post: I used an ATTINY85 in this project. Works.

I also see this interesting use of a TINY45 to make a 440 hz tuner:

I love reading your posts... such a delicious bits for us DIY lovers.

Regarding your question, Jan Ostman has a lot of great implementations of the attiny which are open source too.

I have 2 attinys DIP-8 coming home, plus 2 attiny boards that don´t want to connect to the serial port most of the time (probably due cheap chinese crap) so I gave up trying to program these.

There´s also the kastle synth which is open source too

I my case, I prefer plain old arduino, and taking a peek at the more powerful newer processors (cortex M3 and ESP8266) but no doubth you can do great things in the '85
