MSOP to DIP suggestion? Which ones do you like? |
 |
|
Time to step outside the familiar area of prototyping with DIP IC's
I am going to try to get a MCP4728 (MSOP) going on my breadboard. I have a 3M breadboard which is 100 mil, DIP style.
As far as I can tell there are no DIP versions of this chip available and there never have been. So I need an adapter I figure.
Any suggestions which adapter board is favorable? For instance I see Adafruit has a 12 pin converter, with someone dropping an 8 pin on there (?)
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1211
The chip I need to DIP-ify is this one:

Thanks for any help or suggestions. _________________ Visit my AUDIODIWHY blog and website |

Unfortunately there are answers in both threads and I cant't merge the threads.
If you would be so kind as to post your answer from the other thread in this thread instead, I'll delete the other thread as well as this message - unless answers pour in to both threads, in which case someone with greater powers than me will need to merge... |

Thanks Dr.
This post here now has both answers. Please delete the other.

Holy Smokes Jovian! GREAT Recommend!
My two first .65mm to DIPs using Schmartboards came out great!
Thanks! _________________ Visit my AUDIODIWHY blog and website |

I do this quite a bit. MSOP10 to DIP for the MCP4728. Proto-Advantage.com used to sell a ready made unit. Not sure if they still do or not. One constraint I have is that it needs to be a 0.3" wide DIP when complete.
I think this is it, sans chip. You should inquire if they still sell it with the chip installed:
http://www.proto-advantage.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=2200031 (they are also on Amazon and maybe eBay)
One thing I find ESSENTIAL is that the MSOP solder pads need to extend well out from the chip footprint or it's a nightmare to solder. I think the bare PCB adapters I've gotten off eBay have been as good as anything I've tried from Aries to NKC Electronics. My preference is the long pads as mentioned, and tinned copper. This is the easiest to solder. And a microscope. I got one from Amscope that 10x and 30x for $130 maybe. |
