Hello there,

just released the first version of my first synthwave project - I started this during the new year's holidays - a time when we tend to look back ...

https://soundcloud.com/virtualex_germany/retro

I am somewhat happy with it but on the other hand, thinking that something is missing and wondering what I might improve - so I am releasing it as it is and see if I can get some feedback.

So if you feel there is something missing, I'd be very happy if you'd let me know Wink.

Thx and take care!
Alexander

hi Alexander, well let me say first off that this sounds really good! And I am no expert on synthwave so I can't give very informed feedback but I'll try.

To my ears the greatest strength of this track is in the pads and textures and their arrangement, and where it could use more is in the lead. For example I felt the lead from 2:05 to 2:30 lacked a clear direction and dynamically was a little flat. On the other hand the lead building from 3:25 onward was much better melodically, though again I thought it could do more dynamically.

Overall though thumbs up Smile

Thx your comment!

I reworked the track quite a bit - especially the low end (new bassline, new kick) ... I also took out some background synths to make the mix clearer and less cluttered ... that should have helped the flat synth in the 2:05 to 2:30 range!

I am afraid the dynamics part will still be a problem in your ears - the track is pushed into the limiter quite hard but I feel the removal of some synth elements removed clutter and again that also helped with a little more dynamics.

For now, I am finally quite happy with the current version and I guess will release it that way ...

Thx again for commenting!

Take care!
