As part of a project I'm part of, the sound engine is, of all things, a pair of Eaganmatrix modules. While the documentation is fullsome, there's no real "gentle" entry or beginner's guide into operation of the thing. I gather the assumption is that if one is interested in the module, then you already have have enough background knowledge to figure a lot of stuff out for yourself. Beyond that, the closest thing they have to a starter guide emphasizes that they all have day-jobs and this is a side project for them, so I don't expect to see any field-tested starter manual, simply because they don't have time.

In particular there are things on the display that I have no idea what they are supposed to mean. The display is simple (18 x 7 red LEDs) and requires a bit of user-decoding.
Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.
Four parameters can be displayed at the same time. The value of each parameter is shown by the number of LEDs lit up in its corresponding column. They are up like marbles or jellybeans dropped from above, until that parameter's column is full, after which they start getting subtracted from the bottom. Octave-shifts are indicated by LEDs at the bottom left, with drops by LEDs to the left of that first column area, and jumps to the right.

Sometimes, I will see two LEDs lit on the bottom right, which showing the numbered preset, and I have no idea what it means.

I'm using a mono keyboard with it (part of the project I'm part of, and not my choice). When the CV fed to the module is stable and exactly what it should be, a pong-paddle like line of 4 LEDs is lit up in the centre of the display. Sometimes, it is dead centre, and sometimes it is a little off to one side of centre. What does that mean, and how should it be interpreted.

Sometimes the keybed generates the proper CV and gate, but that particular note is quieter than adjacent notes/keys. I don't understand why.

If you have any familiarity with the unit, I'd appreciate whatever help you van provide. I'm just a babe in the woods with this thing.[/img]

Boy do I feel dumb. I hadn't realized the developer of the Eaganmatrix, Edmund Eagan is right here in town, and is a colleague of the fellow who hired me. So I think I'll be able to get authoritative explanations of what I need to understand from the source.

Thanks for your collective curiosity.
