The Synclavier® II was a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) long before that term was even invented and took the pro music scene by storm in the summer of 1980. Recorded music of the era was created on 24-track tape recorders with rooms full of analogue recording equipment. Synclavier® II used its famous “Real Time Program” software to create its signature sounds using the patented “Partial Timbre Method” utilizing both FM (Frequency Modulation) and Additive (harmonic) synthesis – https://www.synclavier.com/.

The Synclavier II runs on 110V for which I have the original adapter. I do have the manuals and the original Floppy disks. The instrument has been stored away for some time and will need a parts check-up.

Factoid: As the happy owner of this unique and fully featured vintage Synclavier II I was the first composer, back in the late 1980s in South Africa, to compose, score and print a symphony that won first prize at the Total Music Competition. I proudly recall the delight of the orchestra musicians when they had to perform reading from printed parts of a contemporary music composition, a first form them!
