G2 engine with no sound Subject description: Cannot get any sound from the unit. |
 |

Hi,
Just purchased a G2 engine after selling my modular, but cannot get any sound from the machine. The MIDI signal is fine but initially the machine was stopping all MIDI signal through MIDISport 8x8 when the editor was opened. This suddenly stopped happening and MIDI signal is now fine.
I'm using logic on a OS X and have checked all my audio routing atfer conducting a straight swop for the modular in the rack.
Thanks,
Charlie. |

Welcome to electro-music.com.
So you do have a working USB connection between the editor and the G2 engine and you are able to make a simple patch with an oscillator set to an audible frquency directly connected to an output module set to output to outputs 1/2 ? (and the patch level (in the toolbar) set to some sensible level)
If so - does that patch produce any output on the G2 headphone output ? (just in case it might work : mind your ears, it can be loud). _________________ Jan

Thanks for the swift reply. The unit shows a USB connection and there is sound through the headphone port.
However no sound through my monitors using various channels on my mixer.
I am ordering a PCI card for extra USB ports as the unit is going through a USB hub at present.
Thanks,
Emma. |

I am sure the USB connection is not critical at all. A hub will probably do just fine for now. As there is no audio sent via USB, bandwidth is hardly a problem.
Quite probably you have some issue with the drivers for your audiointerface. Logic is very easy to set up with audio inputs, so I reckon the problem is with the audiointerface and not with Logic. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Maybe try to connect the G2's outs 1 and 2 to a home stereo system. When the heaphone output is working there can't be wrong too much with the G2 itself. Everyrhing up to and including the DACs is ok, so it could only be the output plugs themselves, although highly unlikely they would go all dead at the same time. _________________ Jan

Indeed. That is my guess too.

| I had some RCA to 1/4" adaptors that the shop warned me were shorter than normal and might not work. |

Emma,
Reading your first post, I had assumed that you are using the same 1/4" phone plug audio cables for the G2 Engine that you had used with the NM Rack...
... but reading your second post, I get the impression that maybe you think that the G2 Engine sends audio output on the USB connection. This is not the case, the G2 uses the USB connection only for the Editor and the G2 firmware OS updates. The only audio outputs on the G2 are the four 1/4" phone jacks and the stereo headphone jack (please foregive me if you already knew this). _________________ varice |
