Electro-Acoustic Workshop
1st thursdays:::Electro-Acoustic Workshop at Muse Cafe

The series is an improv-based workshop seeking unity between
the modern jazz-experimental/noise-live jungle/idm/drumNbass scenes
in Chicago.

A groove-based collective will be hosting the event, called Steps(74): a new project of my own device to explore jazz mutations of standards, live jazz instrumentation with live electronic infusion, and sheer improv on uptempo idm-jungle-drumNbass grooves.

"Man has always been organic in nature, in terms of what it produces.
Musically, man has found ways of controlling machines, making seemingly impossible music, imitating from live sound (samples-spedup beats), tweeking, probing, dissecting its specific qualities, to the makers liking. Modern musicians now have the capability of using this technology and fusing with their acoustic instrumentation and dexterity of musicianship, essentially imitating the imitation from the machine, providing soul. The end result...electro-acoustic collaboration-fusion of styles-live organica." -DZM

If you would like to partake in the workshop a/o you know others that
are interested in this new genre of music, make sure to mark the calender for thurs. feb 2nd. 7-10pm. Bring your electronic a/o acoustic equipment, drum set-amps for guitars/keyboards/electronic gear (samplers/laptops), and bass cabinet will be there for your convenience, and the convenience of our space.

You are welcome to forward this email to others that are into these styles and realms of experimental groove-based improv.

The series is an answer to the lack of threads between the experimental electronic scene and the scattered freejazz/avant garde circles. These kinds of series have had great success in the likes of such cities as new york, boston, and baltimore and it's about time Chicago (being the city of large shoulders) and the cosmopolitan mecca that it iz, to start pushing this new underground style. This is just the beginning.

For the future of this event: Muse Cafe believes in the endless possibilities of change. What i mean is that the event will be inviting a rotating cast of local burgeoning and creative musical projects and collectives to host the nite. Steps(74) is just the jumpstart. We feel that in order to deliver a real slice of what's REALLY going on in Chicago, and what's possible/to come...new blood is essential for the evolution of this nite.

If your band, project, group of musicians would be interested in partaking in the hosting/promoting of this nite in congruence with Muse Cafe, drop an email to this address, with website info, bios, and mp3's (or directions to sites with mp3s). This is an opportunity for the live jungle/drumNbass scene in Chicago to showcase its talent, for players of similar scenes to interact in a comfortable environment (did i mention we're BYOB Wink ?), to network, create music, and be at the start of the possibility of something new...

Muse Cafe is located at
817 n milwaukee ave
312.850.2233
just north of chicago/ogden intersection
at the chicago blue line stop in River West.

By the way, this neighborhood is really coming about, with several great abstract and outsider art galleries, and tons of new people moving in everyday...trust me, i hear it every time i work. With the oversaturation of the northside, and wicker park general area, River West (having a key location to both and downtown) is becomming one of the new places to be. Muse Cafe is certainly a part of this new sprouting face of the city. Drop by sometime and see what everyone's talking about!

For those that joined us at muse cafe for the start of this
incredible monthly series, thanks for coming out!

Steps(74) threw down some serious live jungle mixed
with sax looping, trumpet, tweeked lowend electric bass,
and plenty of great musicians and electronic artists
joined in to make the nite truly electric!

March 2nd will be hosted by Chicago's 7 League Boots,
an outstanding electro-acoustic live drumNbass outfit.
Bring laptops, electronic gear, guitars, basses, misc
equipment and join in. Drum set, keyboards, amps
and PA will be there to use. make sure to put the
date on your calender...only once a month at this
point, don't want to miss this nite!

We at muse cafe feel very excited about the possibilities
of this series, both musically and as networking agent
for the modern jazz cats, experimental electronic artists,
groove/funk players, and all avant gardist in town.
