A rainy day in New Hope.
I arrived at about 2:30 PM.
There were not many people for the first half hour.
Then eventually attendies statrted to arrive.
There were about 25 people in attendance.
The New Hope Arts Council building is a great space for electro-music

formerly a theatre, the second floor was well lit with ambient light
not too bright from the overcast skies outside, but still plenty of interior
lighting. (it is an art gallery).
The artwork of Sculptor Chuck Kumnick and his wife, artist Chris Craig are moving to Michigan. this was the last showing of their artwork before they go.
It was a nice showing.
Their work is beautiful.Using materials such as acrylic,
wood, steel, and glass together. amazing work that must be seen to really appreciate. The music was a nice sound track for viewing it.
Now to the brainstatik review.
The music was a nice blend of ambient soundscape reminiscent of Robert Fripp / King Crimson with two guitars a chapmin stick , korg X5 and Karma, plus other outboard effects each of the players were using.
All of the pieces were totally improvised on the spot.
The quartets sonics had me (eyes closed ) tranced .
Not to mention an occaisionl passing of the New Hope Steam Engine train chugging with its smoke stack belching just outside the gallery window
and on up Stockton street.
It was a pleasing afternoon .
brainstatik finished up their set at 5PM and then were recieved by the audience with great applause and the usual kudos.
I would like to thank brainstatic for a successful show.
It made my dreary weekend dreamlike.

Nice review.

It would be nice to provide samples from the performance in reviews. I'm in the process of reviewing an electronic music series, and bet I could get the performers to OK a short sample for purposes of the review.

It would be nice to get the flavor of e-m performances around the world...so many of these are in alternative spaces.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading your review. THanks for taking the time to write it.

Thank you for reading it .
I agree that some audio snips would be great to add to reviews.
Most artists would allow it .Some may not .It is always good practice to
ask for a release.
For the last Mouse On Mars (tour 2004) they encouraged it on their website asking for people to record audio and or video and to send it to them for a dvd project which I think is a great idea .
To get different perspectives from various places around the world and then combine them for release. They also would mention the sources on the finished project. The DVD hasn't been released as far as I know.
I made an audio recording of their show in Philadelphia on minidisc but missed the deadline to send it. I would send it now, only they just released a live CD with the same material.
Funny thing is that my recording sounds almost the same as the release.
Only difference is theirs was recorded straight from the board and mine from a strategically placed stereo microphone high above the crowd.
sorry for the long reply Ican get carried away sometimes.
sonically
