I read some place a thread about people importing old DX7 patches into NI's FM7. It was generally agreed that the raw DX sounds were not that great, but a lot of them came alive with the more modern feature set of the FM7. Basic stereo structure, built in FX etc.

So this patch started as a DX7 patch, the router got ripped out because like the original, it is strictly mono. The router is only required if you want to use different algorithms in the same pch2 file.
All you need to do to convert to stereo, is follow the 'wiring diagram' on the router before you delete it. In this case, 1&2 go to one pan, 3,4,5&6 go to another. Both panners are modulated by their own lfos, which are also used to independently FM the two operator chains. No need to stick with the limited DX7 structure when you have a modular right?

The FX section rounds off with OTT chorus reverb and echo.

Just one other "trick" about fatening DX sounds..
The real thing with dx sounds was the tx816...
you need more than one dx7 than you have the fat sounds you hear in the big productions of the 80´s... its lovely what happens when you slightly alter a DX patch and have it in multplt tf1 modules... that was the single modules of the tx816 system...

we can do that with reduced polyphony on our G2´s aswell
