Hi everybody!

I want to use sostenuto pedal function with G2 (piano middle pedal- it sustains notes which are already depressed at the time the pedal is depressed)

I tried to do it in the same patch where the sound is, but then sustained voices are stolen, when you play too many other notes.

I also tried to do it in another patch, and send note on messages to the sound. But when you play and release the same key, that is already being held, the held note is cut too.
Sustained voices are also stolen when too many other notes are played - but this doen't happen often, because midi patch has more polyphony then sound patch.

Do you have any suggestions?

Hmm... strange. It appears the gate input from the keyboard module briefly goes low and then high again when the voice buffer is full and another note in comes in. It feels a little like a bug

I modified your patch a little bit, I don't think you need all the logic on the sustain, the G2 takes care of the sustain pedal for you - or maybe it's my MIDI controller? I noticed that you had turned of the sustain pedal in "Patch Settings". When you press the sustain pedal, the synth engine in the G2 simply does not receive any note off messages until the pedal is released again (if I understand it correctly).

I added a counter, which you can see continues counting up even after you have pressed four keys. Any other Nord veterans know if this should be considered to be a bug? I can't find any useful info in the manual.

/Stefan

I don't feel like there's a way around this. The voice allocation method in the G2 has been complained about a bit here - or at least that you aren't able to configure it.

By the way, I'm assuming that in your first patch, you simply want the first four notes to keep on ringing, and the fifth note to be ignored by the synth.

/Stefan

Thanks for your response.

I don't want normal sustain pedal, I want sostenuto pedal:
If you press a key, then press the pedal and then release a key, the note should be sustained until you release the pedal - this is the same as sustain pedal.
But if you press a key, when the pedal is already down, the pedal shouldn't affect that note.

Example: play a chord, press the pedal, release the chord, play a melody - you should still hear the chord, but the notes from the melody shouldn't be sustained.
3 notes chord + monophonic melody -> 4 voices should be enough, but they aren't enough in my patch.

Sorry, if I wasn't clear in my first post.

OK, I thought it was just another word for a sustain pedal. Embarassed
Anyway, I fiddled a bit more, and managed to get a patch that just ignored key presses on a voice that was sostenutoed (?). Then I tried to make it pass on notes to other voices if a note came in. I didn't quite succeed - it seems to work for a couple of notes, but then it just ignores notes again. Maybe someone can figure out what is happening here.

If you erase the modules under "Pass on", it will be a plain note-ignoring patch, which probably isn't what you want either, but at least it doesn't mute the sostenutoed notes.

Good night.

/Stefan

Thanks!
I can't figure it out either, but it looks promising.
I will try to make it work, when I have some time.

Btw, I connected voice number output from status module and control sequencer control input, to see which voice is being triggered.
But I guess you already know such tricks.
