Wavetable module?

Does anyone know if this is technically possible to implement on the G2?

I know there's some debate as to whether or not Wavetables violate the design philosophy of the G2. Personally, I don't think so, but I'm really just curious if the RAM used for delays and reverbs could be used for a pattern generator-style Wavetable module.

I'm sure it could be done. Especially if the tables are the limited-size ones found in some vintage-style synths, like Modcan.

The tables themselves might be stored in the same flash ROM used to store patches and performances.

Good idea, and a good addition to the G2.

that's great, Roland! actually, I had this sort of implementation in mind when I posted this topic. I've seen this technique in some patch last year. very interesting!

Yes, Cebec. I did use this with the NM(1). But the patch you mean was, i think, one of Wan Kempers patches for G2. You can use the same sort connection with a clocked sequencer. And thus create your own patterns:)
(with key trig reset).

Rob has a wavetable patch, too, I've found, where he clocks the Pattern Generator with an audio signal...

Does anyone know how close these types of patches are to 'proper' wavetable synthesis? I've read some articles on the subject but am none the wiser.

Also, is there a specific reason why you chose 16 for the pattern length versus 128? Besides lowering the pitch and requiring readjustment, a setting of 128 seems to make for a longer, higher-res waveform...

I noticed something funny, though, about these patches. The 'step/prob' modulation input seems 'dead'. I've tried on both the G2 demo software and my G2 and can't affect step/prob amount with an LFO or Oscillator.
Moving the knob, itself, not the modulation amount knob, results in some interesting timbral changes. I suppose I could use a MIDI control send to do this, but I'm curious as to why I can't get the mod. input to work.

EDIT: Ah, it seems that input is only 'live' when in the RndPatternGenerator's Mode 2... hmm... but why?

I'm very curious about how the wavetable stuff is implemented on the new clavia stage thingy. Some waldorf-like wavetable implementation would have my attention for sure!! I don't regard microwave(XT) synths to be samplers, so I say no problem to put it in a G2 (regarding paradigm/principle). But then again, I'm a pragmatic synthesist Cool
