Summer Solstice 2011
Online Streaming Concert
Saturday, June 18, 2011
Help us celebrate the Vernal Equinox by listening or participating in the Autumnal Equinox 2011 Online Streaming Concert
Connect to the stream to listen on radio.electro-music , and join in the electro chat room!
Sign-Up in this thread if you are interested in performing in this years event!
We are limited to 10 hours total run time for the festival. This time we are only offering 30 minute slots. If you are interested in playing, do not wait to sign up. It will likely fill up quick.
We will begin at 1600 GMT | 12 pm Eastern US
Use this handy clock to calculate your time in GMT for sign up
Please copy/paste this Sign-Up template in the thread This template will be used to cut and paste into the radio page when you play live :
1.Preferred Start Time: GMT
2.Name:
3.Location:
4.Username:
5.Description:
6.Website Address:
First Time Streamers Please Read:
Please review the Electro Music Copyright Policy
Please note: "Preferred Start Time". We will do the best that we can to accommodate people to their requested times. However, please be flexible because this event will have European and American musicians in many different time zones. Time slots will be on a semi-"first come-first served" basis. Furthermore, please post your time in GMT. The handy clock should make it simple. However, we do use military/24 hour time. It will undoubtedly be an international event and GMT is the only way to coordinate such events.
As in the past, the CHATROOM will serve as an invaluable communication tool for set up, streaming, and connecting to those listening....and it's just a lot of fun! I suggest participants get familiar with it in advance, if you aren't already.
If you want a recording of your set, it would be prudent to record your own set, rather than depend on others. Accidents and mistakes happen...especially in this format. There are many ways to record your set. Edcast has a built in recording system. You can also record your stream from your mixer on the signal path to the computer.
Performers MUST stream at 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz , stereo .
It is IMPERATIVE that everyone test their connections before we start streaming. At least 24 hours before or sooner. Sorry, but musicians WILL NOT be allowed to stream on Saturday if you do not test 24 hours before hand. Not only does it delay the schedule, but causes unneeded stress on performer, server operator, and audience during performance time. Wink
TO DO THE STREAMING: You can get BUTT a free program, will work for PC, MAC, & Linux. Nicecast is also available for MAC.
Let a stream operator in the #electro chat room know that you want to do a stream test to make sure you are connected properly. For large streaming concerts we will be utilizing the public ports for those that do not have a private port. _________________ ElectroCasa Last edited by shanemorris on Tue Sep 20, 2011 3:43 pm; edited 8 times in total |

I'm a bit nervous about the streaming, since I've had great difficulties listening to the radio the past few days due to problems with network traffic between godaddy and where I'm at. Hopefully it will start working better before midsummer arrives... otherwise I'll have to back out.

7.Set Length: 30min
Use Live to capture some backing tracks in guitar and/or mandolin, process them, and then pick banjo over top of them. I've gotta get practicing!
EDIT: To elaborate, I am going to try to take the structures that have worked recently for playing banjo or guitar synth over Scrabble-to-MIDI, and replace Scrabble-to-MIDI with live-captured traces of other stringed acoustic instruments, with the traces morphed then looped in ways suggested by Scrabble-to-MIDI's algorithmic structuring of phrases. Haven't tried it yet, but I've been doing a lot of picking lately.
Using as raw material an acoustic piece "Passing Storm" that i wrote in 2005 after my mother had a series of small strokes. It's set against a scale
G. A. Bb. C#. D. F. F#. G.
that I played on the porch of the Shawnee Playhouse's Cast House for Charles Shriner last May. Charles said it was the first time that a scale (rather than a melody) gave him an ear worm. First public performance. _________________ When the stream is deep

If not for a conflict in my schedule, I would have loved to participate this year However, I will listen in as much as I can. The performances by KK and AI sound very interesting to me so far.
