Input request: adding sub-folders to the NEWS forum |
|
|
In off-list email, Stein has suggested the following sub-folders for the NEWS forum.
New Gear
New software
Concerts
Conferences and Festivals
Call for Entries and Papers
CD Releases
Miscellaneous
Before we create these new sub-folders and begin huge job of moving the old unfiled news to the subfolders, does anyone have any comments or thoughts about this?
Are these enough? Too many?
Will this be an improvement? |

I think I just thought of some additions.. but... my brain is not quite the blunt instrument of reason it used to be..
The obvious thing with dividing the news forum into subforums is that it will be far easier to find posts but also reuse posts for front page circulation. This will increase the content picked up by search engines and this will be just what we need. Sorting news items like this will also show potential advertisers what we are about. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I would go for the following sub-folders to the NEWS forum
New Gear (hardware/software)
Concerts and Festivals
Conferences/Call for Entries and Papers
Releases (CD, Book etc.)
Miscellaneous/Silly
I would not go for too many sub-folders _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Good enough, I'll make sub-folders as Carlo suggests. Then we'll come up with a plan to move the existing topics. |

OK, I made the new sub-forums in News.
In order to make it possible for all of us to work on these moves, the editors group has been made moderator of most of the forums. Clarlo, Stein, Greg and I are members of this group.
I suggest we each first move topics we ourselves created. Then after we get experience, we can mover other topics.
To move a topic to another forum:
view the topic.
click on the little arrow at the lower left of the topic.
select the appropriate sub-forum
UNCHECK the "leave shadow topic in old forum"
Click on YES
Go onto the next topic.
There is a fast way to move more than one topic at once: I don't know how useful this is, unless you recognize the subjects.
View the NEWS forum.
At the lower right, click "You can moderate this forum"
click the select box for topic you know go to the same target subforum
at the bottom, click move.
Hope that's clear enough.
I suggest we post questions, problems, suggestions, etc as replies to this topic. |

I feel so powerful now. I have the right to terminate any post I deem unacceptable.
It's like being a Roman Emperor (more or less)
I see that little X on the upper right corner of almost any message and I feel the power
maybe is the chocolate cookies talking _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Did you see the special triple x button that can scramble the contents of any post into pornspeak? The post will be translated into "ooohh ohhhh oohhhh.. BABY... ahhhh ahhh ahhh" etc. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
