where a graphic seems to be embedded rather than attached. Is is OK to do this? How do you do it, even? Might have saved some of us a bit of trouble. |
Easy to embed an image that is on another web site. Just type in the url to the image with "http://" , highlight it and click on the IMG button in the post editor. The advantage is that it is quick and easy and you don't have to copy the image to your computer and upload it with the attachment feature. The disadvantage is that when the site changes the image or goes away, the forum topic looses it.
State Machine, to reload an attachment, just follow these instructions:

Idea!
A script that automatically load and stores any linked attachments
from peoples postings from an external server to the forum server?!
Then you will always have a backup?! Sort of! |

Yes, that is a great idea. It would make pages load faster because all accesses are from one server.
Anyone know php that would like to volunteer? _________________ --Howard

I might know someone who could do this, because it solves a problem on another board too. I'll try to put him in touch with you (again, apparently).
I'll PM you about it. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Finally got the chance to get my DNS and cookies sorted out so I could log in and say thanks for putting such an effort in to keep this forum alive
BTW: I know a bit of PHP. Is the posts format easy?

Yes, much thanks and much sympathy for the ordeal I'm sure it was. _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |

i am going to be an ass and point out the obvious here. if it weren't for my integrity in fighting Mosc and another person on having the zip archive - you'd have even less than you do now.
all the shit you clowns gave me deserves an 'i told you so'.

OK, I checked the permissions (which often get messed up in a restore) and cleaned up a few things, but nothing looked particularly bad. There are limits on the file size and dimensions too. If these are exceeded the error recover is not very graceful or informative. Please check your avatar image is within the limits and try again. If it doesn't work, please let me know.

I'm a little late to the party, but big thanks to Howard for getting the site back up and running. Its very nice to have it back. I didn't know what to do while it was down. And thanks also to Elektro80 and Blue Hell for helping me out with my windows problem so I could once again view the site. |

Gee Howard...
Maybe you ought to see an optometrist, or something.
But thanks for bringing us back on line. |
