So the UPS guy comes to the door yesterday. Usually he just drops the packages on the porch. This time he's standing there with a package for my wife. "Hey, what's going on," he says, "This isn't from Mouser!"

HAHAHA Great.
I have thursdays off so I place a Digikey order usually every Wednesday so it shows up on Thursday. My Purolator driver usually comes around 2:00. Today he came at 10:30 and commented about how he hoped he didn't wake me up (which he did). _________________ -

No, she orders from places with strange names you never heard of. For example someplace called landsend (can you really send land to people?), another called potterybarn (sounds hopeful, but nope, no connection to the Klee), and then there's harryanddavid (they sell food -- in case you can't get to the grocery store, I guess) ...

If DIY electronics ever had a Vaudeville Circuit, this would be the opening joke.
Salut, all you good people on this forum! |

My wife is accustomed to a lot of parcels arriving, too.
And the neighbours take them occasionaly - as we are taking theirs.
So one day my wife calls me there's a *huge* package for the neighbours (who were on holidays), and it's now stored in our car port.
When the neighbours came back, they said, oh yes, that must be the palm tree.
Palm tree ?!
We thought it was a plant ... not very likely to survive in German climate ...
Weeks later, he started to dig a hole in his garden, filled it with concrete, and now we have a 3m high eyesore, a bright yellow plastic palm tree, in our view. Well, at least the children like it ...
Did I mention its leaves make a light show, too ?!
JH.
ETA: Thinking of it, I forgot to tell my wife about the package that will arrive today, with several hundreds of padded envolopes ... Last edited by jhaible on Fri Nov 30, 2007 5:38 am; edited 1 time in total |

I'll take a photo on the weekend.
He's a very friendly and helpful neighbour, and I didn't have the heart to tell him what it looks like ...
OTOH, I heard that palm tree will be a topic at next year's parish fair parade ...

Since I live in LA, I can easily procure and post to you some life-size pink plastic flamingos, if the illuminated palm tree is lonely...

Well, post 'em if you've got 'em! |

I'll post a pic of my tree, but it looks better at night time. I was waiting for the sun to set. Hope you can wait a couple of hours. I know it's tough, but I promise, it's worth the wait. _________________ --Howard

| If they have illuminated leaves, I'm surprised that no one here has broken out the LDRs. |

You guys are cruel.
My brain has almost learned to filter the sight of the palm tree out, and now here I am waiting for it to be illumitated again, so I can take a photo!
Sorry, Ian, for having planted palm trees in your thread.

Wonderful! Looks like you've got a nice comfy chair for lounging amongst the rocky sands of Allentown beaches

We are hoping that we'll get some plastic flamingos to land near the tree, but so far only finches, nut hatches, titmice, chickadees, doves, and a hawk that eats them. I would like to see a hawk try to dine on a plastic flamingo. Evolution is an amazing thing. _________________ --Howard

No, I'm enjoying it. Sometimes a thread just has to go where it wants to. I told my wife about these new illuminated palm trees and she just looked at me like Where have you been spaceman?
